Also posted in CR - but seems to be a few more here :D
Okay, went xc schooling this morning with my 5yr TB, she has started to jump this year and is very keen :D i am also gaining confidence with jumping after a long break away from horses, i have had her over a year now and she has taught me alot. She gets braver every time we jump, i must admit shes braver than me! planning on picking up jumping lessons again in the near future.
We did try our hand at dressage but she hates schooling so shes currently having time out from that and doing exciting things instead such as xc, cubbing, hacking etc....
Her overall style of jumping has improved this year too as at first she used to have quite dangly front legs mid jump, but she seems to be throwing a better shape over them.
Also when shes approaching she does all the normal bunny hops/mini rears etc but really chucks her head up despite having a running martingale on?? any tips?
Also Please can i have some cc on how to improve position etc and anything helpful :) thanks :D

Deffo put your stirrups up many holes! if you don't have space on the leather, punch a few more in. Will make your lower leg much more secure. But other than that, you look nicely balanced over her and not interfering with her :)

In order to get over the bunny hopping etc, I'd almost be inclined to suggest riding her through it, try not to collect her too much & don't worry about her head position, at least until she settles and doesn't find it so exciting. It's probably no bad thing that she's lifting her head now as she'll be able to get a better view of the jumps and be a bit safer (provided she doesn't b*gger off with you when she lifts her head!)

I only suggest this because it's what works with my one, but obviously it depends on the horse!

She certainly looks keen!! She still seems a little dangly in front but I'm sure she'll improve that with time :)

Lovely pics! Defo put stirrups up a few holes!

With regards to the excitment before the jump, do lots of grid work. So have a line of jumps that vary in space (so one stride between, two strides between, a bounce etc) and just school her through them.

One other thing we use to do with a very excitable mare was set up a plan cross pole, and then circle infront of it, keep circling and then when they are relaxed, go for the jump, but try not to change your riding when you do decide to go. The idea is, is to stop the horse antisepating (sp) the jump when you are going to jump it.

Good luck!

Thank you :) will try the grid work.
We have a hunter trial coming up in a few weeks if i can get the transport which should be good experience for us both too :) good thing is its being held where we have being doing our xc schooling.
