I am just so fed up
frown.gif
Baron had been off work for 4 weeks due to a tiny cut on his leg which was in such a silly place I could not ride.

Now just as his cut healed he has what we think is Strangles

He is so poorly its heartbreaking. He will eat nothing but a bit of grass and the odd mouthful of hay. He did not eat or drink a thing for 2 days, now I am syringing bute into him and he is eating a bit more. I feel so cruel as he is ill and hates me syringing the bute in as he doesnt realise it will help him, I feel like he thinks I am just being nasty.

I have worked so hard over the winter and planned a fantastic summer for us both and I had so many goals set for this summer. Now it looks like our whole summer will be cancelled. And it is making me so upset seeing him ill and knowing there is nothing I can do for him

I cant even socialise properly as I cant come into contact with any other horses. I am so fed up, can I have some hugs please? I think Baron might like some too

What a shame for you both!! <<<<<positive healing vibes>>>>> for Baron and some (((((hugs))))) for you.

Hopefully once he's over the current illness you'll get your summer plans back on track!

or i really hope he is feeling better soon fingers crossed it's not strangles its a horrble thing, has he been tested for strangles yet are there any more on your yard with the same symptoms

Bless him - poor sole!! Still with vet treatments now it he will soon be feeling better. Strangles responds well to anibiotics so in 5 days he will be a lot brighter. Ask your vet for danilon as it is more palatable than bute x x

Wishing him a really speedy recovery. I know how well you look after him, and he won't want for anything.

You should not give them antibiotics, just let it run its course if possible

He is ok when I put bute in his feed, I am only syringing it as he will not eat because his abcess is so huge and his throat is sore

Vet has said if he gets worse he can inject him daily with penecilin (*sp). I have also been giving him aloe vera orally as this is supposed to help flush out toxins.

And yes we have had confirmed cases on the yard recently, all of which are better and getting clear swabs back so it was a bit of a blow to the whole yard when he came down ill.

He was swabbed today, results back Tuesday. He has all the classical symptoms though

Thanks for all the hugs and healing vibes, the sooner he gets over this the better as its horrible to see.

Have you tried poulticing the abscess? I know it's an awkward place (I know, Henry had an abscess in his chin groove once!), but the Kaolin stuff really worked for me.

Hope he's better soon. Sounds a rotten time for both of you!

Yes I poultice it twice a day with a really hot poultice to try and draw it to the surface quicker. It really seems to soothe it while the poultice is on aswell

Thanks.

He is still no better this morning

He did eat a little hay last night but did not touch his water. He is out in the sick field today as it seems to do him good to go out.

I just want that abcess to burst as that will be instant relief to him.

hope he is feeling better soon i am sure he will be bk to normal in no time
