Considering buying a new horse, said horse is;

3 years old
15HH / 15.1HH
Gelding

Mum TB X Shire and Dad was TB X Cob.

What height and build would you expect it to make? Do you think its a nice mix?

It wouldn't be for me. I think when you mix a sire with unknown breeding onto a half bred mare, you could get just about anything. I suspect he will be a heavy type of horse, but unless you could see the sire and the dam you are going into the unknown.

Sire was 1/2 TB and 1/2 Cob

Dam was 1/2 TB and 1/2 Shire

Probably going to be a nice looking horse I'd imagine. I'd expect refinement, but substance.

Not sure you'll get a whole lot more height out of it, but you never know you may squeeze a hand.

Id be incredibly happy with 15.2!

He is a really dark brown, no white at all.

Has a kind eye and is very shy at the moment, hasnt had huge amounts of handling.

Bambridge, Have you seen the pedigree for the stallion, that proves he is TB x Cob - what breeding was the cob ? unknown is my guess.

As for the mare, have you seen her - have you seen her pedigree that shows she is TB x Shire ?

You are buying a horse that has unknown breeding, the reason people buy youngstock from proven breeding, is that they want a good idea of what it will look like.

I havent seen either parent. The gelding currently belongs to a friend of mine, who rescued a few (she has the land to be able to do so, so often takes from sales/rescue cases, chucks them on good grass and finds good homes)

All we have to go from is his passport.

I'd have to see it to guess how much growing it had to do, likewise to guess how it would turn out build wise. Half tb, and 1/4 each of shire & cob sounds like a nice mix up. Knowing the parents can give you a good idea of what it will end up like, but no absolute guarantee. Even with known breeding going back several generations I would judge the horse before me, especially at 3yrs.
