Went for MRI today and unfortunatley it showed my horse has collateral ligament damage, which has also caused some inflammation of the bone. Got to wait for the full report - but from reading on here it looks like its going to be a long road to an uncertain future for my lad :( I've read most of the posts about Collateral Ligaments - does anyone have any positive outcomes to share with me? On top of this it looks like he's going to need athroscopy on his stifles as there's something going on in them. My poor broken horse!

((hugs)) wish i could give you good news :( on the plus side- arthroscopy is normally very efficient at correcting issues..

Frankie damaged his, together with his DSIL and DDFT.

Spent 18 months trying to get him right, months of box rest, bringing into work slowly but nothing helped. Watched his horrible long toed, lowed heeled, thin soled feet get worse and worse no matter what we did.

It's a bit controversial but I sent him off to be rehabbed barefoot, won't bore everyone with the details here but go through my previous posts and you'll find lots and fingers crossed it seems to have worked.

Took him up to RVC to be assessed last week and he was pronounced sound for the first time in 2 years. He's in work and as soon as the ground softens I am going to start jumping.
 
My horse had a core lesion in the medial of one front hoof and in the other hoof he had a sprained lateral ( collateral ligaments). Three years on he is sound and out competing in showing and dressage with success. My vet gave a poor prognosis but after a long and careful and STRICT rehab he's sound. The only thing is, i am scared to jump him in case i break him, but i know others on here have done ok. its an awful injury but some do come right good luck

No happy news though our lad did come sound for a year or so to hack. It is such a pain and seems to be more common as time goes on - though I think most the horses diagnosed with "navicular", heel pain, and various other foot pain in the past probably had this but there was no MRI to confirm it...
There are an awful lot of us on here:(
 
Ted is unfortunately in this club too...he is intermittently lame has good and bad days unfortunately, the ground being hard at mo doesn't help...he was diagnosed 2 years ago - he is just a hack now, and we occasionally do schoolwork! x
 
My story is very similar to Criso. Although my boy has sprained his lateral collateral ligament, no other issues. Anyway, he has gone to the same barefoot rehab as Criso's horse Rockley Farm, and he's been ther 4 days. Fingers crossed that he improves. Good luck its a hard road to recovery I would not wish it upon anyone, my boy had boxrest for 9 months with no turnout just controlled exercise it was a killer!!!
 
OH event mare had damaged lateral and medial collateral ligaments of the coffin joint in both front feet last June. She was treated with shockwave and IRAP by local (large) horspital last summer. She has been barefoot since last August and is (touch wood) sound. We did follow the rehab plan to the letter and she is now working as normal (did some fab flatwork today) We were told that she can jump on a good surface, but we are a bit to chicken to try! Also my Welsh D had arthroscopy (same horspital) 2 years ago for a torn meniscus in his stifle. All went smoothly...and again (fingers crossed he stays that way) he is also sound....so go for it and good luck!
