Why do people have the need to post such horrible things up about animals being missed treated.

Why O why - what do they get out of posting it?

Sorry Sprial this is not at you for posting what you did, as a few people have done it and its SICK

i watched until a very disturbing part that left my 35 yr old male partner sob and walk out the bedroom. i watched part of it to see the tuth of the video but honsestly i cant see why it needed to be uploaded on youtube. its very much like the meet your meat videos. quite sad, but the plight has now been passed to us...what can we do?

Hmmmm I am getting in to quite a debate about this as I get really irritated by these sorts of vids. They are there to shock but IMHO cause people to oversee what is going on on there own doorsteps.

I'm not trying to say that I wouldn't try and help if a case of animal cruelty was brought to my attention locally, I would try to help. But I just don't want to see the images on here, can't help feeling like that.

i donate 2 two animals charities, one being redwings. they has opened a care centre near me and my partner donates to the NSPCC both we do monthly. i recognise what is on my door step and i try my best to help in a way that i can, its not a lot but its something. animal cruelty isnt just on our own doorstep, its a worldwide problem

I looked at the Rodeo one someone posted and could not watch it all. Very disturbing BUT it made me think that next time I go to USA I will not go to a Rodeo and support this behaviour. I did not see it happen at the one I went to possibly because it was a big event, but if this is what happens at local smaller events I do not want to go anywhere near rodeos anymore. I do not think I will be watching any more of these vids though. Very very upsetting and sad.

How does posting these horrible videos help. Seriously -I would like to know - because I can't see how they help.

its highlighted a problem and if you feel so strongly about something theres is always something you can do

because i believe that there is something that can be done to help these animals? i dont believe i am a minority. what i do find disturbing is that people are NOT willing to change anything. for a forum filled of animal lovers, shouldn't we be doing more?

I think that if one is to put up such a distressing link, it should be in the spirit of wanting to change whatever the issue is. To put it up in a 'what a horrible thing, have a look' approach is not helpful.

I would do more to help domestic pets in the Far East but frankly I am charitied out, I contribute to one direct from my salary every month, and sit on the county committee of another, so maybe am not the best to comment on this one.

What do you suggest could be done?

Edited to say I have just seen your link, which looks really useful

oh lol! i thought you were being funny in an off beat way!

if something touches your heart that much, you do your best to help ease the situation for them and the pain you felt. if you want to moan about the treatment do something about it also. remember... we are the voice of the creatures, and unfortunalty some people abuse that in these creatures

sorry to go on but i feel too strongly to let it just lie for the night

Please write to the UK Trade Minister:

Rt Hon Ian McCartney MP
Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs
Foreign and Commonwealth Office
King Charles Street
London SW1A 2AH

A sample letter is provided below - but Please try to write a letter in your own words (individually written letters tend to have more effect.)

Dear Mr McCartney,

Re: International Fur Trade - Domestic Dogs & Cats

I am writing to express my concern and outrage that nothing is being done in Britain to ban the importation of dog and cat fur. Import bans are in place in the USA, Australia, Italy, Denmark, France, Belguim and even Greece, a country not renowned for its animal welfare. Thus, existing scientific tests must have been used by these nations to identify furs of cat and dog.

In addition, I am dismayed that the Government backed the British Fur Trade Association’s labelling scheme, which is a voluntary code and therefore completely unacceptable. Fur products on sale throughout the UK continue to be traded without any labelling attached to them whatsoever. If the code is working then this should not be possible.

With no law in Britain banning the import of these cruel products and with no labelling laws, allowing manufacturers to use misleading terms to describe the product, or no labelling at all, the Government is sending a clear message to Asian exporters that such products are welcome in the UK which they are not.

I urge the government to bring our nation forward and in line with other civilized nations by introducing immediate legislation to ban the import of dog and cat fur. And to impose a mandatory labelling scheme that will require that all products are labelled with species and country of origin.

Yours sincerely

It is important to also write to your MP asking them to call on the UK Trade Minister Ian McCartney - to demand an immediate national ban on the import of dog and cat fur and a compulsory labelling law. If your not sure who your MP is go to: http://www.faxyourmp.com - you can use this free service to send them a fax.

Thanks for that link Flintus - didn't see the clip, but the comments on what happened in the thread in question were enough to start the tears - have donated, and will write a letter asap.

Thanks Flintus for the positive suggestion. Letter in post tomorrow morning. Haven't watched the clip as from other comments don't feel the need.

Thank you Flintus.

I did not watch the video clip (though I have seen similar pictures). Although none of us want to see these atrocious practises - I believe that we should be aware - and then do something pro active.

Pressure on governments can have huge impact - and changes can be made.

Surely it is wrong to hide one's head in the sand. Yes it is horrible - but maybe we can contribute to putting a stop to what happens.

Stopping trade is a very effective protest to a country.

Neither. Just wish it was all just some sick joke, but it's not. Just makes me physically sick just thinking about it, let alone actually watching it, which I just couldn 't do.

General - Don't think spiral was trying to 'get anything out of it' just, as she said, raise awareness.
Don't beat me up, but I think in many cases seeing something like this really pushes people to do something about it, and it definately does raise awareness. Obviously the best thing would be if it didn't happen at all, but it does, so imo the best way to start stopping it is to shock people, to a certain extent. I didn't watch the vid, but from what I heard was in it, it sounded enough to make anyones stomach turn.
