Can I just say....

I must be the world's worst then!

My girl wear pyjamas, has sweeties in her bally (decahedron ball), has her feet done by the tootie man, goes out in the field with her friendies, has din dins and brekkie, and she also responds to the instruction 'toot-toot' to get her to pick her feet up!:eek:

Forgot to mention that the poo fairy mucks out her stable!

Mine just wear big fur coats that happen to be their own. :D I do think using these terms can blur the edges of humanizing though.

Hmm I disagree - how can it blur the edge really? I would agree with you if I came up the yard and found someone who used those terms with a horse wearing proper slippers, PJ's a la M&S and getting ready to have a "duvet day" watching daytime TV!

As another poster said, humanising would be the above :D

Mine have jimmy jammys, beddy-bows time, the farrier comes for a manicure and they're enjoying a duvet day today with their toys :)
In the morning when they have their hot brekkie I call it their ready-brekkie. Hay is din-dins.

Shoot me :o

I don't use these terms myself but am not particularly worried if someone else does. However I do fret a bit when people anthrophmorphise and give their horse a so-called duvet day because they think the weather is a bit nasty and so therefore their horse would prefer not to be turned out.

Yeah, I refer to stable wraps as leg warmers and bed filled feet as taking off slippers. Also the little tub where I keep his treats is called his biscuit barrell.

My horse is called pony, princess, fatty, moo moo, everything. I talk to her like she's a baby in a voice I would use for a baby, and she is happiest then.
I give her a nice dinner, and put on her boots, I talk to her and she responds. Ie I say foot, and she lifts it, or I say this one, and she will change to that specific hoof,
Every night I say night night princess, and she understands this as her signal to leave the gate and go and eat some grass, or I say see you later if it's in the daytime.
Horses are not pets, but mine by far isn't just there for competitions. She is a part of the family, and yes, I am her mum:)

Over rugging because you feel cold, feeding lots of sweeties, keeping them tucked up in a nice warm bed all day every day, feeding meals but forgetting the importance of forage...
I do think many people can separate words from actions as above but I think some don't so easily. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Nah, of course it doesn't. I suspect most of us are all well rounded individuals that can differentiate between people and animals. The names we apply to things are only names at the end of the day..............:D

we used to use silly terms at college as it annoyed the heck out of our instructor:D talking about moominooo's (cows) in front of her would make her scowl as well, i still call cows moominooos occasionally:p

I really don't like adults calling horses ponios. One we are adults and two it reminds me of Bonios!
Q

I must admit I don't like horses being called ponies or ponios. But I don't even like the word pony for actual ponies either for some strange reason unbeknown to myself!

Can kinda see your point re the over rugging and "if the weather is nasty" - not something I've struggled with :D but for the most part I don't think people would.

You calling me round amymay? :D

PMSL!!!

I've picked up a few new names for things from various places along the way..

"Bonnet" instead of headcollar

"Carpet Slippers" for the bedding stuck in feet after being in the stable

"Tart" is an in season, squirting mare, used affectionately "Don't be such a tart!" "Oh she's tarting today" (I used to work on a small stud)

A friend says "Shin pads" instead of brushing boots which makes me smile

We have an old ex-broodmare at work who has so much character and loves to headbutt you across the yard etc, and instead of Sherry, I call her Cheryl and she has a "manipedi" instead of the farrier.

Pulling manes and tails is a "haircut".

I have to admit to going a little bit too far with a friend, and we hack out the fully clipped horses with their scarves on with their exercise sheets... We put our own big fluffy scarves around the horses' necks. It does make sense though when you think about it :p

"Lotions and Potions" are the flamazine, flucoxydermnicil or what ever it's called- I can never remember, Kevin Bacon's, etc etc.

Horses wear shoes, why can't they wear coats too? :D

Ah its only a bit of fun! I doubt the horse will have issues if rugs are jimjams and so forth...

Mine are
rugs- pajamas
Dinner-dindins
Clip- a shave
Stable-bedroom
Her nickname is witchypoos or poobum!

What i personally dont like is when people think the horse needs to be in because its "chilly" or "too wet outside" or over rugging the poor horse :( stuffing it with treats and also overfeeding! Why people feel compelled to feed 3/4/5 things to thier horse and the buckets full to the brim...thats what annoys me !

Ooo eer sorry that turned into a mini rant :D

Does it really matter? How can such a trivial thing cause you enough bother to post it on a forum! :)

This! You can call pyjamas whatever you like but my horse never has a duvet day, she goes out whatever the weather. Oh and her feet are at the end of her legs .....

I'm probably worse in the way that I won't throw out old teddies etc in case they have feelings!!

Thank the Lord that it's not just me!! I do regard myself as a very stable mature person...but I have to confess to this. I got them all out once to take to a car boot but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So they are back in a black bag (suffocating I know) on top of my wardrobe! :D:D

Sorry i digress...

Another one who can't throw out old teddies, they have feelings you know!

My boy on box rest at the moment is actually on bed rest!

I always say night, night, sleep tight to him!

His forelock is his fringe!

I really don't like the word ponio though.

I am also mummy to my two lab girls!

And, yes I am round!

I would so love it if I turned up to the yard one day and my horse was wearing slippers and actual pj's it would be hilarious.

We did once consider buying my friends horse a flat cap and a pipe.... he looked like he would really suit one!! ( We didnt by the way)

I always talk to my horse, I like to think he likes it, normal people would think I was a fruit loop if they heard our conversations.

I have also named the mice in my stable, now I cant be 100% certain that I always get their names right but they are cute!!

I talk to my horse all the time and if he tries bitting my coat pocket when his treats are in there I tell him to leave my rug alone! Oh I also call his horse treats sweets and he now recognises that word, lol.

Oh god... OP will hate me also then! LOL :D

Rug is a ruggle puggle. Boots are booties. Feet are tootsies. They are naked when they have no rug. My horses are ponies. I constantly hold conversations with them and speak to them in a 'baby voice'. They go to bed of a night in their bedroom. Yes I am their mum, my mum their nan and my sister their Auntie... God the list could go on!

Although never have I used a 'duvet day' my horses are out in all weathers! Ruggle puggled up to the eye balls :D

Love this thread :D:D

:D:D:D

Also loving this thread!!!

The first "muck out" of the day for Dolly is me "making her bed"!

I also call her rug her PJs, but for some weird reason OH calls it her "bag"! He says to daughter "have you bagged Dolly up"!!! What does that even mean??? I have visions of a large paper bag with her great big ginger legs and head sticking out of it!

And when I ask daughter to grab her a handful of hay (as a treat after work, and before her feed) I say "go get Dolly a chocolate cake"!!!

She's not my baby, daughter is. But she is my very very much loved pet (as I don't ride her) and sod what anyone thinks about how I speak to her!!!

(the cat is my baby though - and it's her birthday today!!! woooooo!!!!)

:D

I call rugs 'coats' or 'blankets'.
Never heard of 'duvet days ' before though... :L
I called my horses my babies, cowbags, sweetie, all manner of names ;)

I've never found the horse it was aimed at to get offended so I think it's okay ;) haha
