... a numpty ginger nut who's lost a shoe?
blush.gif

I ask because the Dizzy one threw another one two days ago. My farrier has no idea when he can come out (I think he's getting a bit hacked off, this is the fourth in five weeks - I think, I'm losing track).

Everytime I start to get to work on her, either she does something or something happens to me

.

We don't have a menage, only a riding field, so I can't ride her, but the question is, can I lunge her with only three shoes on (it's a front shoe this time she's lost)? I really don't want her to lose the little bit of fitness we've managed to build up!

Ho hum.

TBH I wouldn't (unless it was on a surface) as it's a front. If it were a hind/they were sound and had good feet, then I probably would.

ETA - I assume you haven't got a hoof bot (Boa type) you could put on?

personally i would not due to it been a front shoe,i tend to think a front shoe been thrown is alot more damaging than a back one.
But then i dont tend to exercise any of mine for 2 days after loosing a shoe with arnica given as soon as i know they have lost it.

Although this is easy for me to say in 22 years i have prob had 3 shoes lost in all that time.

BAB - never had a lost shoe 'till I had this girly

. She's losing shoes like it's going out of fashion! The weird thing is, the farrier is good (a sarky g1t, but a damn good farrier) and her feet are good. The only thing I can think of is that they are a little soft - when I can get farrier over I'll get his view and some advice on what to stick on them.

Ho hum.

The trouble is each time she loses a shoe, she weakens the foot further plus then extra nail hole will weaken further still. I'd be inclide to put over reach boots on (put them all round is she's know to take her hinds off too). Might also be worth starting her on Biotin.

Yes, I think she was on the last option on the back end

. The front is the first one she's thrown, but I think you're right, over reach boots it is.

She's going to look the part... no noseband (won't buy new bridle until got new saddle

); five-point breastplate; dressage saddle; closed cross-country boots; and now over reach boots all round. Friend and daughter will refuse to be seen with me

. I have some pink ones...

Edited to add that the supplements in her feed are soon going to outweigh the actual feed

lol.

Gosh do we use the same farrier Sarky git?? I think we might!!lol
Have you tried Keratex on her feet? Apply it to the clenches straight after shoeing. Its good stuff.

Great stuff, it's called Keratex Hoof Hardener and does exactly what it says on the tin (bottle actually)
wink.gif
It does it very quickly as well.

They want a new home!

Well he was shod 14 days ago.. and so far hes lost the right shoe twice and the left shoe once..

Oh and in a fit of wisdom yesterday.. i turned him out with no rug on.. He was cold and wet and not a happy chappy..

How are yours?

Aw, poor laddie

Mine are fine and wotsit I think. Not seen them for two days, though at the moment can't quite remember why... Am so hacked off re. shoe, it's like Tiggy all over again, can't ride. Ho flippin' hum. Eek, need more caffeine me thinks. I do know that Little Lad isn't going anywhere for now, which I am ridiculously pleased about, though did like the 'new ned'. Need to win the Lottery!

Will pm you re boots

It really depends where you are intending to lunge him if your going to lunge him on relativly soft surface defo go for it. MY TB whos just started going barefoot is worked on hard ground and lunged 5 days a week on hard gorund as we only have grass school which is like a rock at the moment, so if his feet are not crumbly/really not good then dont unless on sand or something

I have a plan...

Go to local livery yard...

Find all teenage/early twenties girls in jods and tight tee shirts.

Bring to your yard.... Put kettle on...

Farrier will be there in 10 min flat. It's almost guarenteed... I feed my farrier bacon butties, so I can get him day or night, 365 days a year!

ya gotta work the system Mrs M!
