I would love to do something other than hack with my gelding and i love to watch dressage.. how realistic is it to turn a self taught happy hacker/hunter and an ex racer into something else... nice position instead of chilling out etc lol!!

anyway this is Wren..

I would love to have a go at something like this,

But havent got the foggiest idea where to start, im on a busy livery yard and the YO is more jumping than stressage, hehe.

Wrens pretty good in the school but im not sure on how to get him working properly.. but hunting i can do all day long... so now i really need to get off my a** and get this horse out and about for the last 20 yrs iv been banging on about wanting to compete but things get in the way... horse not right no money but mainly no confidence

Find a local instructor and start to establish the basics. Once your happy that you can get around the test resonably balanced and in some sort of outline (I've seen horses going around with their noses in the air quite often so don't worry!!) go out and have a go, just remember to enjoy yourself!! It's a hobby after all!! I've seen all sorts doing prelim in local riding club tests so don't feel that you need to be an expert straight off! The more you work on it with your instructor the better you'll both become.

I think you should definately give it a go. Wren looks like a nice type of horse and should find dressage easy, I think he'll look stunning once he's built a bit more muscle up and is working correctly! As others say get a good instructor who's into dressage and you'll be away. Good luck! Let us know how you get on
