Hi. I have baught a lovely bates wide saddle for my welsh d 4yr old who is currently away being broken (he comes home next thursday :) ) when he went he was quite portly and in a wide gullett. He now has lost weight and is in a medium/wide gullett (she is using her own saddle on him). Does anyone know if i can put a medium wide gullet in a wide saddle (obviously it does has a changable gullet system) but is desigled to take the WIDE gullets. Im sure that once hes home and muscled up a bit he will soon put the weight back on (he is by no means skilly though!) so will probably soon be back in a wide gullet.
I hope this makes sense!
Thanks :)

My Wintec Wide say wide (red) gullet is the smallest you can put in. I currently have an xw (white) gullet in it and that was a pig to get in so I would say no.

Yeh i thought that! Never mind i can always use my other ponys wintec on him for a start as that has a medium wide gullet in it. I just wanted to get my posh new saddle streigh on him! Hehe. Thanks!

I would think you could the saddle is just designed to take the extra gullet in the range. the standard saddle can take a massive range of gullets so cant see yours being much different?

Ill put a wide gullet in and try it on him when hes back and see what its like... Hopefully it should fit! If not i will have to rethink! Thanks guys x

No you really musn't use anything less than the wide plate. The saddle is not designed to be taken narrower. You do have a good point, in reverse, in that it just shows that using very different sized gullets DOES affect the fit, people don't realise this. Wider gullets make the tree curvier.
