I have a lovely pair of HKM yard boots that I live in but lately they have started leaking. Is it worth trying to re-proof them as otherwise they are in good condition or is it a waste of time?

I have HKMs too (brilliant value). I find good old fashioned Dubbin really helps. The trick is to use it before you need to! I am very lazy about looking after mine. Not sure if they make Dale's Dubbin any more but I bought Gold Label and it works a treat.

Oh dear, I may have let mine go too far :( I have some Nikki Wax but I will look out for the Dubbins and see if it helps! I know I sound cheap but I hate to throw something out if it is still useful and I do love my boots!

Conditioning and waterproofing the leather will help but it's the internal waterproof membrane that makes them waterproof. If that's broken then the best you'll get is very water resistant.

When boots get to this stage I buy a new pair and then start breaking them in. I continue to wear my old comfy boots but put carrier bags over my socks to keep my feet dry :) By the time I have got the new boots feeling "like mine" the old ones are finally ready to go to boot heaven.
