I have recently purchased a tbx skewbald yearling filly and id like to know if i can register her on wetherby's non tb register. Her dam is an ex racehorse and has a wetherby's passport.. she raced as a 2/3yr old and has an excellent racing pedigree and was once trained by Henry cecil but has since been registered as a Broodmare with wetherby's... Her sire as far as i am aware was unregistered but my fillies sires sire was Dexters Puzzle. My fillies breeder has only had a basic passport done for her and has not registered her. I am keen to get her registered and want to know if this is possible and if so how i go about it... Thanks.

No, Weatherbys won't register horses with unknown parentage. CHAPS will so you may have to go down that route, or other societies.

are you sure??, my daughters pony has a weatherbys non TB passport and the dam and sire and damsire are all 'unregistered', place where bred is unrecorded as is breeder! Passport was sent back to them recently to have ownership transfered and they didn't send it back with VOID or FAKE stamped across it;)

go to their website Kim1978 and check it out;)

Weatherby's issue passports for both registered TB and horses of unknown breeding. To be in the register for a none TB is usually where one of the parent TB's has not been registered but the pedigree is known.

The easiest thing would be to phone them and ask.

If Dexters Puzzle is registered with Weatherbys on the NTR (Non Thoroughbred Register) then it might be possible to register your filly with them since her dam is registered with them (he will have either (VII) or (GB) after his name). Any mare can be registered on the NTR register if she is going to be bred to a Thoroughbred or Non Thoroughbred stallion, if her parents aren't registered with Weatherbys then she will be recorded as parents unregistered even if they are fully registered with another breed society. Mares with unrecorded parents will have VII after there name. Stallions can also be registered with unrecorded breeding after passing a vetting and given VII after there name. Offspring out of two VII parents will be registered and have (GB) after there name and will be elegible to race over fences. Eg: Silver Whirlwind (GB) by Caradoc Cloudnine VII ex Copper Whirlwind VII (damsire unrecorded). Hope this all makes sense! Ring weatherbys and ask, they are very helpful :)

Passport Application
Since 28th February 2005 it has been a legal requirement for all equidae to be issued with a passport. Weatherbys ID Passports is an authorised Passport Issuing Organisation providing passports for animals of unknown or unverified pedigree. If a horse already has a passport it is illegal to apply for another passport. Please note the ID Passport Service is NOT a racing or breeding register.

The cost of an ID Passport is £22.40 and discounts are available for multiple applications. In order to apply for an ID Passport, please download, complete and return the form below.

Please Note: Under the Horse Passport Regulations 2009 (England), applications for equine passports can only be accepted for microchipped animals.

I might have this all wrong but if the breeder of your filly has had a basic passport already done for her then this is what you should use as she has already been issued with an ULN (unique life number) and the only way you can get her 'registered' with a proper society would be to have that passport overstamped by CHAPS/SHBGB but they would not be able to add breeding as it will be unverified because the covering certificate should have been lodged when she was first passported. No passport issuer will verify breeding without the correct covering certificate (and possibly DNA) lodged with them at the time of first registration.
Depending on the registration of the stallion and legitimacy of his covering certificates , your filly could have been passported onto the NTR at Weatherbys as the mare is a registered TB which is a lot more respected than a pet ID passport and would have given her (filly) a more respectable background which you could use if you ever wanted to breed from her yourself; as it is, any foal from her will only be able to have verified breeding on the sire side so in effect you've lost a generation of papered breeding which might not seem so important just now but will be if you breed from her.

Such a shame when breeders don't use the best passport service available to their youngstock right from the start, it would solve all these problems right from the word go. Who has issued her passport?.

PArantage is not unknown - read her post again!

Ask the breeder to give you the full details of the sire and grand sire. Then go to them to confirm that they have your fillies dams details. Then apply to Weatherbys to register her in the TB cross
