This is my daughters youngster, he is 3 years, 9 months. He's just returning to work after the winter off (was backed last summer and turned away).

I am 12 1/2 stone, and I know once fully matured he will carry me easily.
I am just a little concerned about his age and because he is still growing.

He's pushing 16 hands, so not a little lad, no idea on his current weight.

I really don't want to take any chances, he's my daughters pride and joy and she has worked so hard to make him the wonderful horse he is.

I am not wanting to do much, just a potter about, a hack around the farm.
My own pony is the same age and only 14 hands so there is no way I'll get on her until I lose weight, I've lost 1/2 stone this month but feel I need to lose 2 more before I can ride her.

Fed up of not riding :(

So what do people think?
Sorry, I know this is asked a lot, but sometimes people need an independent opinion that's not biased or blinkered in anyway.

Thanks :)

I would think from looking he will carry you no problem do short pootles. He looks to have good bone and a decent height.
Others more experienced may come along and say no but if your a balanced rider not beginner i can't see an issue.

You might find its how you ride more than what you weigh. A skinny unbalanced or twisted stiff rider will do more damage than a supple heavier one. You'll only be doing slow baby stuff so i'd not think you'd do any harm at all.

It will be nice when you can both ride out together :D

Think you should be fine. My friend is 12 stone and regularly hacks my mare who is a good deal lighter and smaller at just 15.2. She is a good rider and they are both fine because she is very well balanced and not a sack of spuds :)

It certainly will, at the moment my daughter gets to ride both!

This is my pony, but she's barely 14hh really, but I'm only 5'3" so it's just my weight thats the issue. I keep telling myself one day I'll get to ride her :)

I can see no reason why you shouldn't ride the pony either! It's not as though you are asking for a great deal of activity and he looks a sturdy fellow! I weigh about the same and my 13.3hh Arab carries me fine!!

I agree that it would do him no harm & that balance matters an awful lot more that weight. Bit concerned about your username tho! ;):)

My 6ft2 hubby has ridden my 14.1hh cob (even in public!!) & amazingly doesn't even look that big on him! Amazing how much leg these cobbies take up!

I think when she's grown up she'll be fine, my concern is again age, she's only 3 as well.
I am hoping as I shrink she will grow :)

Well I am exactly that, my little pony is a Welsh section D, and I'm a short arsed little tubbie, so Welshie Squisher is me ;)

I bought her as a foal, and I was about 3 stone lighter at the time.
She's a fantastic little cob, but is in no way a tank and isn't gonna happily carry a big weight.
I may only want to pootle about now due to the age of both of them, but in time I'd like to tear across country so I really have to get some podge off for the little one ;)

God I get excited even thinking about it, when it happens I will be totally cheesing :D
