Can I see any adults riding 14.2 / 14.3h ponies please?

Hey guys, just after some visuals of adults on ponies this size really, mainly for some reassurance my youngster isn’t going to be to small for me . She’s currently 14.2h and in 5’4 she’s a Welsh D. Shes 4 in May. Tia

I can do much smaller I'm 5'6 and ride a 13.2.
14.3 seems massive to me now.

My current smallest riding horse, an Icelandic, is 13.1 h, and I'm 5'4. That feels just fine, although I do prefer larger horses for jumping. I would not see any issue with riding a horse that's 14.2 with my height and weight. My former pony was 13.3 h and we did quite an amount of jumping, didn't appear to be an issue at all. Before that, I had an Icelandic that was just above 13 h. Will see what I can find in shape of photos, I don't have a lot of those...

There are lots of people riding large m & ms anything from around 13.2 upwards, some ride even smaller.
How you look depends on the pony - some are very chunky, others less so, but also on your ‘conformation’ ie if you’re particularly long in the body but have short legs you may look kind of ‘over topped’ but if you’re an average type you’ll be fine. It’s a whole different world if you’ve been brought up in circles where you need a horse rather than a pony. You don’t! There are loads of groups, clubs, societies etc specifically for M&Ms they can do as much if not more than horses. Remember all the native breeds used to be the work horse of the area they came from and were expected to multitask. Sadly these days some characteristics in some of the breeds have changed but it still should b3 possible for an average sized adult to ride them. Remember the natives are slow maturing and often won’t be properly fully grown until they’re about seven years old.

I’m 5ft8 and my mare is 13.2 on a good day, the last comment I had on my height was “I didn’t expect you to be so tall when you got off.”

My torso looks slightly too long but my legs are fine, I’m a 34 inside leg and she’s a New Forest so not even a wide cob.

Last time I was 5ft 4 I was a child on my 14hh so you’ll be fine.

I'm even intending on schooling my native pony, who will end up at about 12-12.1 h, myself. That will however include a lot of training on the ground before I get on, and short sessions. Seeing as I know quite a lot of men (and people aren't short here) who ride regular Icelandics and everything looks good, I think it'll be fine. There seems to be a strong norm about having unnecessarily large horses, and while I agree that horses for jumping should be larger, I don't find it necessary for dressage and regular hacking. I could not find a good enough rider to school my pony on the level I want, who is also smaller than me, and I think it'd be great for children to have a highly educated pony to ride.

This gives you an idea, I do look big but this pony is 4 inches smaller than yours and I’m 4 inches taller!

5'6 and ridden NF's ranging from 13.1hh to 14.2hh. Deep girthed ponies take up the leg well.

I’m 5ft6 and used to ride a 14.2. I’m long in the torso which looked a bit odd but caused no issues.

Just look at photos of show classes for ridden Welsh Ds, they're nearly always ridden by adults.

i’m 5”2, 30” inside leg - mine are 13.2hh & 14.2hh! my mum hacks out with me on lily (14.2hh) and she’s about 5”6/5”7!

You've made me realise I only have a teeny handful of photos of me riding my cob - I'm 5'8 and he's 14.2ish so you should be fine! I do sometimes think I look a bit big on him, but he rides big and we manage ok

The same is true of Dales and Highlands.

5.6 on a 13.2 highland. Never felt big on him but my friend 14 he Icelandic did look too small for me. I loved riding her though.

I'm 5ft4 and ride a 14.3 mostly NF type. I'd say I was average both torso and leg and he takes up so much of my legs because he is stocky I actually look a bit Thelwell when I ride him! When I was bringing him back into work I thought I might look a bit big but someone showed me a video and I couldn't believe how small I looked on him. Look much bigger on narrower TB types that are a hand bigger you'll be grand I'm sure!

I’m just shy of 6ft and this is me on my old boy who I sadly lost last year, he was 14.3hh.

I'm 5'6, 10.5 stone and my main ride is 14.2 heavy cob.

I school my friends 13.2 cob with no issues, tried 12.3hh and whilst didn't seem to struggle to carry me at all I felt really unbalanced, maybe centre of gravity too high.

I do think I'd struggle with a skinny sort but hw cobs are great. Obvs you need to ensure they can carry you both by rule if thumb and being aware of how they're moving with you.

Biggest issue is often finding the right saddle!
