Can I see your cobs clips......

Cause he's not been clipped over winter as hardly rugged and he's got a very thick coat and he's now too hot. Did the same last year and we had no problems xx

Mine isnt clipped but he is losing his woolley mamouth coat and I would do a trace clip if he was being ridden. But he doesnt like clippers anyway so I usually do his feathers by hand...not perfect but it helps keep the field mites at bay if I keep them off the ground and if he needs treatment its easier to apply. I trim those most of the year round.

Saffy was clipped in January, her saddle patch has just started moulting!

I'd take it all off and merge into her legs as much as you can if you do have to clip :) Or if you take her legs off anyway, take everything apart from mane/etc off. Might ruin summer coat now but at least it'll be even growing out then :) I can relate...a couple we got in had to be clipped as too hairy to be in full work and not fair just waiting for them to shed out either. Though some were for hogging etc anyway so wasn't too bad!

If you take it all off how do they cope with being turned out all summer? Im in a situation with a hairy cob that sweats up so much its not fair on him but if I clip how much to take off? all seems a bit drastic but I want him to be cool and not sweat up. Im not bothered about keeping feathers etc.

I always whip the whole body off

you can just see the lines at the top of his legs, and along his mane - especially at the white fleck on his neck. I can't bear to hog him or clip his legs off, so they stay, but he's such a hot pony that I clip all through the summer as well, and people always comment on how shiny he is!

My cob has started to moult rapidly but after suffering badly from feather mites last summer and catching him starting to scratch his front heels, he has had all his legs clipped off. So yes, he currently looks ridiculous with skinny little legs and then a woolly body but he looks a lot happier and hasn't itched since:D

I've just taken everything bar mane, tail and half a head off my little cob ( see my thread on comp riders as on phone and can't link ;) ) and she's MUCH happier and looksa very smart :D

If needs be she will be clipped out all summer if sorking hard as she grows one hell of a thick summer coat :(
