When I went to see my hairy little beastie he was a mass on knots and feather cowering in the back of a stable :(, the dealer had got him part of a job lot and didn't know what to do with him..being a sucker I said 'I'll buy him!!' and took home a 3 year old backed but very green and nervous horse! So between me buying him and arranging delivery from Ireland to UK the dealer thought he'd be nice and have him 'cleaned up' for me!! Hence what arrived was a bald skinny thing with one leg of feather because apparently he freaked out on the last leg so they left him alone!!!!

I was distraught as I didn't want a hogged cob and it wasn't the same horse, luckily as he was so young I was throwing him a field anyway so he had time to grow back what he'd lost!

So lets buck the trend and show our cobs from hogged back to as nature intended (don't get me wrong i LOVE a hogged heavy cob but my lad really doesn't suit it!!)

First day :

My goodness, he looks like my big chap!! I desperately wanted his mane back but turns out he wasn't hogged he has sweet itch so still no luck on a mane!doh
I've put up all electric and changed the field about so no trees and am hoping that over winter and next summer we will have a hairy boy back?!

Ooh he's nice! Looks like fun! Suits the hairy look :)

PS: congrats on the weight loss!

He's certainly fun..he's a priceless coblet, one that loves to jump and run but has never once in 7 years bucked or reared (okay once but only a little one!!). He's the usual pushy cob and naps like a bugger when he wants to but suits me down to the ground, I'm looking for a youngster to bring on for when he retires (not for good while hopefully) but it's hard to think of anything that I'll want to ride over him. Sign of a good horse is not wanting to ride anything else other than your own I always think!!

Thanks weight loss was easy after I started jumping lessons..if I expected him to clear any height I should at least take as much weight off his back, wouldn't have done it for myself cos it didn't bother me!! Lol!!!

Meant to say we were told she had hogged him but she just fibbed!! How long did yours take to grow back?

To it's full length it has taken a couple of years. :( I'm actually having his mane stripped this year for hunting so I can do a running plait easily and to hopefully encourage it to grow a bit better because it's gone a bit orange and weak at the ends.

we went from this

I do miss the feathers a bit but his legs are so much better without them!
