Can I see your natives doing dressage?

what a lovely thing to say :), I'm proper :D at that! he gave me a fab ride that day, it was the RC music areas.

unfortunately he somewhat lost it in the elementary.. the music sometimes gets a bit much  at which point I normally laugh at him and tell him to act his age! The fancy dress pics were are last outing out, he went lame the week later and in hindsight the signs were there on how he was going that day.

Generally he gets tense if he struggles/gets confused when asking for less established stuff.. once he understands he likes to show it off then! I'm sure I also have plenty of pics of us tense and on the forehand but we tried our best :)

This is my Exmoor I do dressage some unaffilated and some affilaited at prelim level and I'm aiming for novice

I leave him au natural and it takes me ten minutes to get ready!!

He's not cut out for ridden showing despite being totally gorgeous and a good mover, he gets frightened, dressage suits him a lot better. Judges seem to like him because he is so cheerful, we have been asked quite a few times if we have brought the companion along for a ride in the box by fellow competitors though :)

And because I'm quite sad I made a little video of him schooling and doing some unaff. This was when we had just started, I'm a lot more accurate now :o

Love this pony! We need to see more of him! I really like Exmoors - if only I was shorter!

OP - I've taken my Fell out to do a couple of the walk-trot tests (we're hoping to graduate to prelim this year when canter gets less exciting) and the first time we took him out he won the w/t test, there were only 3 in the class but the other 2 were tbs!

I tend to plait his mane in a running plait - only because that's what I do anyway when I ride to avoid tangled hands!

We've never had anyone be funny with us - mostly he gets lots of comments about how cute he is - which he laps up! People seem to have a thing about his fluffy legs - I get stopped in the street and people point too. Fortunately he knows he is quite fabulous and so there's no chance of him getting a complex! :D

Thanks walrus he is ultra cute, I'm doing two tests tomorrow so will ask husband to take some photos as he's looking really quite smart ATM.

There's some pics of him a bit more in the photo gallery I think I have done this right :o http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=534395

I also struggle a bit with extensions even when I think he's doing his stretchiest longest free walk it's usually commented that he needs to march on more or stretch more but he is so short coupled. OP good luck with your project pony he looks lovely. I love all the photos on this thread, so lovely to see our fab native breeds, I love them all :)

I don't have any pics, sorry BUT about 10 years ago I acted as 'Chef d'Equipe' for our PC team who qualified for the PC Champs (dressage). The team contained two 14.2 Welsh D's - both of whom won their arenas and therefore rode-off for the individual title at the end of the day. I can't remember where they came ($th & 6th I think), but basically they were 2 of the top 10 horses there that day. And the PC Champs is a seriously decent level.

They were a fantastic couple of ponies - really versatile. Both have LOTS of BD points and both have won at Elementary (& I think Medium too).

Not really sure how to do this and if I could I would add a photo of our Beautiful Welsh Section D. My 13 year old daughter competes her affiliated. But I cant see how to attach a photo??!!

Genie (Miss Congeniality) - 15hh Unreg Welsh D, going to the Summer Regionals this year at Prelim and was 7th at the BRC National Championships at Royal Windsor Horse Show this year. To say our dressage used to be quite 'quick' would be an understatement!!! I am very fortunate to have the support of the wonderful trendybraincell, and I have the same AMAZING trainer as she does so hopefully one day we will be half as good as her and Shadow are!

2011 - Unplaited with feather

There are some stunning ponies in this thread, thanks for all your posts everyone. Has given me a brill idea of what they are capable of but not quite sure my little project will be as well established as some of these beautiful welshies.

My OH and her welsh D, competing Adv Med BD, has 300+ points
Bought as happy hack 11 years ago, now 21 and still going strong.
Also a joy to hack and pops round an SJ course. :D

Theres no reason he can't be just as good if not better!! If the training is right :D go and enjoy it

I do dressage with my appy x (I think!) connemara. She's definitely not a big warmblood anyway :) I have pulled her massively thick mane to within an inch of its life and I plait her. I've done lots of unaff prelim (now scoring mid to high 60s consistently) and have just affiliated, so we'll see how that goes!

this is my little Fell, i leave his mane and tail flowing or i put a runner plait in his mane, like in this photo. It was the dressage of a ODE so i plaited it so he could see where he was going for jumping and XC :D

Fab pony, I adore him as you obviously do too :)

I have judged a little exmoor a few times now, you should see his medium trot! It lifts my heart for some reason :)

This is my 5yo coblet being a dressage pony! The judges seem to like her, this year she has won the prelim & novice junior finals at the NPS Champs, qualified for the Badminton dressage champs and now qualified for the PC dressage nationals! Affiliated soon I think!

WOW!! She's done all that and she isn't affiliated!!:eek::eek: I love her :)

Thanks we love her too! It's only her first year of dressage and she was bought to primarily be a WHP but she seems to shine in the dressage arena too!

I want to affiliate her but I'm so confused about the membership, help anyone?!

This thread is great and came along at the perfect moment. I am seriously considering doing some dressage on the Exmoor as he has improved so much since October (stiff as a plank of 2x4, 20m 'circles' which more resembled 5m hexagons and so heavy on the forehand that I wondered if he would fall on his face if I let go of the reins ).

Amazing what some lessons with a couple of good instructors can do, that and lots of perseverance.

I often pop down to Stilebridge near Maidstone which is a busy venue with a range of different types. There are some wonderful Section D'd who are always in the ribbens, who look light and responsive and get good marks, often beating the more expressive warmbloods. My Section D also does a nice test, but she is a little choppy in front in canter which tends to make me shift my position forwards. She is always very straight even when i am not,and does a lovely free rein walk, again keeping straight.Wish i could do photo's on here as i would post some.Never underestimate a native they are very versatile.

I didn't have time to read all the replies, I just wanted to add that nf ponies are fab! We got one for my cousin as her first pony and she still has him nearly nine years later (he's just over 14hh). He was just five when we got him and I took him out to a few dressage shows to let him get the hang of going out and about and he didn't get marked down at all for being a pony. We left his mane unplaited as we only went to a few local shows, but his mane isn't that long anyway....quite thick though...managed to get 28 plait in one time that my cousin persuaded me to plait for her!

Have fun with your nf!
