Nearly 4 years ago, I gave back a loan pony to a charity that we had her from. A dude of a little shetland type who was an angel with the kids. WE had her for 2 years and loved every inch of her. We only had to give her back because she was unpredicable in heavy traffic, and as we lived on a farm which had a huge contracting business then, meeting massive tractors and lorries scared the little mite, and it was unfair on her. We tried to get her used to it, but it really was too much for her and with the kids on board it wasn't safe.
She is now back up being offered for a new home.
I promised the sanctuary if ever she was up for re-homing I'd love to have her back... and now that we are no longer on the farm with all the machines, oh it would be wonderful!

BUT, what do I do with her? Kids are almost too big now for a shettie type, although they are plenty light enough. Our grazing is a bit rich really for that sort of pony, yet she could keep the young NF filly company in a patch while my mare has more. I can't really afford another set of trims, nor the added possibles of vets, yet I know I'm earning more with 2 jobs now. Oh, I am so torn!

Have they actually approached you about having her back ?
I just say that due to the economic climate you don't feel that you are in a position to provide the care needed.

I'd be torn too, and I think I'd need to have a chat with the rescue centre - an honest chat - to see if it would be doable. If it wasn't doable then at least I'd know I'd tried.

Why does 'I want' always seem to try and over power the 'it isn't practical at the mo'....

I really know I can't, as it comes down to finacially with the ''what--ifs'' as she is very easy (and cheap as far as horses go) to keep but it sure doesn't help when i phone my mum and she says ''aww, would love her back'' .... TBH it wasn't the answer I was expecting! Normally she is the practical one!!!

I'll see what she says about it over the next few days - IF she mentions it, we get her, she pays the 'what-ifs'!!!! Does that sound ok? :D

Just so we all know how cute she is!

My kids are the ones riding her.

She looks like a sweet kids pony, I wouldn't rush into getting her back if your kids are going to be too big soon, she might find a home with some younger kids.:)

So when's she arriving then???? Go get her or you'll be on here in years to come saying "why did I let her go, where is she now...."

: ) xxx

you can't take on another horse that you cant afford, im sure there is someone else that can offer her an amazing home that can afford to keep her! you don't want to risk it, if you have good grass and she gets lami then you can't afford the vet fees! its not worth the risk!

I know, I know. You are dead right of course. Wish I hadn't looked and seen her up for a new home. :( Darn it.

I just know how it is, i bought a 2yr old in feb, coz i thought he would be cheap, then ended up having to get 2 shetties as companions because he didnt like it when i took my mare out, and the other way round! the last 2 months I've had £800 worth of vet bills, just paid the last of it today :( luckily the shetties haven't cost me much but theres always that what if! if they had the vet out too, i'd be totally screwed!
