my horse is on antibaotics, he has a sachet everyday twice a day and i thought if i added some garlic granuels if would reduce the nasty taste of the antibaotics, can i start feeding my horse the garlic granuels straight away? and is it too much for him if i give him garlic granuels am and pm?

In the past ive added garlic powder and its never really been a problem, how ever i put it to my mares feed and she wouldnt eat it.
Maybe give him/her a small amount first.
Hope this helped

A lot of people dont recommend feeding garlic to horses anymore. You know my mind has gone blank and I can remember why but Im sure someone will enlighten you:) I would maybe go for mint instead.

I think you could add garlic straight away, I have and my horse didn't have a problem, but I think a measure am and pm would be too much. You can get mint powder (I think it's a powder anyway) in feed shops, I think NAF probably do one.

If you're masking the taste of antibiotics though, I don't think garlic would be the best thing as antibiotics are bitter and so is garlic, to an extent. When my fussy horse was on them (norodine sachets so quite a lot of antibiotic powder) the vet advised me to use apple juice or apple puree. Neither worked so I put in a generous amount of molasses instead and then he ate it. A friend at the yard has an even fussier horse - she dissolves black treacle in hot water then mixes that in with the feed and her horse will eat anything then - antibiotics, wormer etc.

pretty sure there is a toxin in garlic that can cause anemia in horses.
