As in title really.... always had a hankering to try and get some exams behind me, but I dont want to go to college with a bunch of young, trendy, good looking horsey gals!!!!

Does anyone have example papers I could have a peek at, and do you need to do the course work as part of the exam or can you gen up at home and just take the exams???

Please dont shoot me down, its just a middle age thing!!!!

You can be any age and not at college. It's a practical exam, so no papers to look at, but you can just turn up and take the exams.

The syllabus and recomended reading is on the BHS website, and a few lessons (individual if you like) at the place where you're having the exam can be invaluable.

Thanks for that, glad I dont have to go back to college!!!

Have just googled the sylabus and its huge, but definately general knowledge and common sense in most instances.

Might have a crack if I feel brave enough :-)

Morning.I did mine through college and a work placement but i also found reading the BHS course companion book VERY helpfull. And i also have all my course work still if you are desperate you can have it!!It is probably a little out of date but it's all pretty much the same.

LMAO! Of course age isn't an issue! As said you can got to approved BHS centres and do your lessons and studywork all in one session.

Be prepared for total analness though. For example in the horse care, you must remove all water buckets and haynets e.t.c. from the stable when tacking up e.t.c. All a good idea in practice due to accidents that may happen, but it is a case of thinking the BHS way and not what we do in everyday life.

Yes I confess, I leave my water buckets in the stable

Hi! I did mine out of college and trained by reading and learning.
I went from BHS Stage 2 to BHSI(SM) in 18 months. I was 28 at the time.
The books I would reccomend are the BHS examiners handbook where all the questions are, all of the revision notes and Hazel Reeds books.
If you want training we do PT courses www.hall-place.com

Hope that helps!

Many thanks all.... rema, I would be very interested in any stuff you could lend or give me... I would understand it if you wanted it back :-) Please let me know how to arrange this.

I had a quick look at the sylabus online, and most seems like stuff you know by the time you have reached uhunm 41, but obviously there are some things like the water bucket/haynet stuff that I wouldnt even consider to be necessary and I would hate to fail on a silly (anal) point like that. (If i was destined to pass in the first place)!!!

Please let me know how we can arrange the coursework Rema, that would be fantastic!!!
