Can I use human hairspray (colour) on horse ?

I want to spray over some white scars on my horses legs. I have found supreme products cover spray but it is around £15 (& postage) for 400ml. I can get human stuff for £2 a can. It's washable so would wash out with a bit of soap and water.

Can I risk using human stuff or should I grit my teeth and order the supreme products stuff ?


I know loads of people that use human shampoo, baby oil etc. on horses so was just curious.
 
Chalk or white powder... Personally I would if its safe enough for us then as long as horse does not lick etc why not.
 
The scars are big it came from my sharer who very stupidly without my permission used some heat product on his front legs with bandages, it burnt his skin and his legs grew back whit. The scars take up most of the leg between hoof and knee. Very visible. He is black which is lucky. Easy colour to find.
 
Just a word of warning, the spray on hair colours come off very very easily, if you touch it, it will stain your hands. I had to pray my hair black for school once (long story :D ) and I had to literally not touch it all day as it would just come off at the slightest of touches! :)
 
I use uncoloured human hair spray on plaits with no ill effect so I think your only danger would be a reaction to the colouring so do a patch test first.

Regarding the supreme product I have not used the black but have used brown and it is very good stuff - don't buy from supreme though as the postage is ridiculous - have a look locally or try ride away etc.

There is another product which is quite good - cant remember the name of it but if you Google shiny show horse you should find it. Girl is very helpful and is cheaper than supreme.

I use old fashioned boot polish on my horse to darken his knees and hocks, that may be worth a go to cover up the white hairs? I've used it on my horse for over 10 years and never had any problems :-)
 
Yes, I've used it before. I used white spray to get socks white, orange & black for a Halloween ride (pony was covered in spiders & pumpkins!) & red, white & blue for a Jubilee themed PC rally! It did take a while to come out though (on a mainly white skewbald pony!!) xx
 
I used white at the weekend on my cousins pony for her fancy dress.. She was going as zorro so we put a z on ponies quarters with white hair spray from fancy dress shop. Stayed on for 2 days after obviously without us trying to get it off.
 
Yep - I've used black on a piebald for fancy dress......he had a dashing scull and cross bones on him........and silver on a black horse....hearts clubs spades and diamonds. Black did not come off that easily - could still vaguely see it for about a week - but that's not going to bother you. I got mine from Superdrug or Boots I think and yes about £1 or £2. The only other 'totally safe' equine product that would work I think is black wound powder. But of course you won't get such good coverage. Good Luck!
 
Have used black boot polish (the stuff in a tin not bottle), black hair dye and in desperation one day, eye shadow! Can't see why it would hurt unless the skin is still sensitive. But I'd be inclined to use polish or dye so it doesn't rub off.
