I was just wondering as he has trashed last years stable rug and I have been waiting to get a good deal on a new one but can't find anything his size that fits the bill. He does however have a mountain or t/o rugs, the one in question is quite light in weight although is quilted (The inside is the same as a stable rug) but the outside is like a T/O rug (ie. more stiff/robust).

Defo - use whatever you have. The T/O one will stay drier (not wet stains etc) plus you don;t have to change his rug when you put him out ;-)

yes and you can go one further as lots of us do on here and just use one rug if its still waterproof - no need to change at all

Yes, definitely!

Stable rugs are becoming a thing of the past. Only difference is the absorbent outer. Save time & your horse getting grumpy when you take off his cosy rug & replace it with a cold one.

Also halves cleaning costs each year! :)

I don't think it's acceptable. I have a rug for each day of the year and the rest valeted and perfumed (Britney Spears) ready for it's next use a year later.

Can't Beeelieeeve you use the same rug more than once :o

eeeewwwwww!!!!!!!

:D

Do any of you remember the very first turn out/stable rug? It had a unique arrangment of a surcingale that had another strap similar to a standing martingale, this then clipped onto the cheast fastening. It was very expensive, and wondered if it was still in manufacter. Lasted almost forever and NEVER moved ,no leg straps either.

Can;t remember there being anything between jute rugs, New Zealands & the X surcingle rugs we have now.

I do however remember the first Weatherbeetas etc being hugely expensive. I think they were about £90 all those years ago.

Of course you can't!! They are called T/O rugs for a reason! :p

Lol sorry, I do - in fact the only reason I have stable rugs is to use as extra layers in the winter!

I think even then it was more towards the 200 mark, but worth it ,promise.
