my boy came into work again on tuesday (because of a severe allergic reaction on his stomach he was off for a week) and had to put a new fluffy girth sleeve on so that the girth wouldnt rub the scabs. yesterday he tried to eat the sleeve when i was tacking up, and was very settled and happy when i did some flatwork and a little bit of jumping.
tonight just had a dressage lesson, and had the fluffy girth on again (which he again tried to eat when i was putting it on
)
he was fantastic!! he really wanted to work and go forwards, and was very happy to work in a contact and he went from me leg! so it made things easier for me because i wasnt constantly kicking him on, so i rode better too
but merlin seems to really like the fluffy girth! he was so much better than before he was off, and everything seemed to "click".
do you think that it is the girth sleeve that has made the difference? or am i just being stupid? do you think the girth sleeve has made him more comfortable with the girth?
has any of your horses ever changed their way of going/attitude for a simple change in tack/diet/routine?
