Can my horse have a cavesson noseband?

I am a big fan of flat cavesson nose bands/ flat brow bands, but I heard that only cobs are allowed to wear them for showing etc. I have a grey 14.2hh welsh section C cross (see pic below- excuse the beard, it was in January!), and wondered if its worth getting the tack if I can't compete in it.

Thanks

what other sort of noseband were you thinking of? I thought most show classes required a horse to go in a cavesson - either flat or stitched. Most pony show bridles have a stitched cavesson, but I see no reason why you cant use a neat flat one.

My Welshie has a flat cavesson noseband and it looks great (even if I may say so myself!)... You can always get a separate flash and flash attachment if you need it.

I would definitely show in a flat cavesson. Just make sure it is not too thick (or too thin) for his head.

I'm using my sister's W.H pony's old bridle on my horse just now- the noseband is really too thick for her head (pba) but fine for just everyday use.

Thanks guys! I currently have a "rolled" cavesson. Would a flat noseband be appropriate for showjumping and hunting too or should I stick to the one I have?

Beautiful pony :)

It really depends on what you compete your pony as, if you compete your pony in Welsh part bred classes, working hunter, show hunter you would be fine, general classes like family pony are all fine too.

A nice cavesson would show the pony off well, experiment with the widths to find one that suits the pony's head

My answer to that would be "Yes, if you can find one!"

That said, I always remove the flash loop on my nosebands and restitch it by hand with matching thread. Sad, I know, but I find it very therapeutic!

A flat cavesson is correct for most things. In fact I can't think of anytime it would be wrong on a section c as it is correct for M&M classes and hunter ponies. Flat nosebands are fine for dressage, sj etc (although many prefer to use padded ones) and smartest for hunting too.
