My friend is looking to buy a horse and it seems a nice horse except for one thing when you look at the length of it neck from the poll downwards, as you come towards the withers there is like, a dent in his neck, excuse the way I am explaining this but I am not sure how to describe it in another way. The horse is not ewe necked, but what causes this and is there a name for this, also his neck does not seem to fit with his shoulder, any advise please:mad:

Prophet's Thumb Print maybe? One of my horses has a natural one from birth...another just has a dent from a kick. I know it isn't a true Prophets as I bred him.

It looks like the neck has just been stuck on, the neck is not well set on the body, so sorry I am not as thick as I am sounding, I just do not know the terminology

This is a prophets thumb. Doesn't sound like that to me

I'd go with a low set kneck, it's not an unsoundness, and with proper work can be minimalised.., unless your friend is looking for a show horse, wouldn't let it put me off

I think I know what you mean, I had a cob like this

His withers were a normal shape but instead of rising to his neck smoothly there was a dip before the neck started

I think you mean the neck is set on too low .
If you do a google images search horses low set on neck there's some examples is that what you are seeing ?

Thank you all so much, it's a low set neck, thank god for you ladies or gents for listening a to my awful description, I have learnt something today ;)

So it is. That's the same as my cob then

On the plus side the neckstrap of his martingale never budged an inch!
