Hi Y'all!!:D:D

Im Sharing A Horse Soon And Its My First Time!! What Do I Do? How Many Times Do I Go Up And Ride?? Can You Ride A Horse Striaght After It's Been Fed?? Will I Have To Feed Her??:confused:

Also I'm Quite Big [15 stone] And Riding A Horse [15handsheigh] Is That Bad?? Would You Be Put Of By A Fat Rider Sharing Your Horse??:confused:

Thanks Y'all!! :D

Go up whenever. If you're busy, horses feed themselves, so no bother there.

If I was you, I'd look for something smaller though, maybe a small slim Arab type.

:D:D

when you go to see the horse, arrange the days with a owner, ask what exatcly your chores would be etc. i've been sharing for years and all you need to do if you're not sure just ask! you never know if you dont ask :D depends on what the horse is really but i'd say you're fine, i know a woman whos absolutely huuuggeeee and she rides a 16.2hh thoroughbred, skin and bones, its not allowed to be cantered cuz its so thin and lacking muscle. so i would say you're ok there :D good luck!

Thanks Very Much! I'm Nervous Because I'm Only Young And Its My First Time Sharing.Sorry I seem Like A Troll.

Make sure you get a shetland as your first share horse- nothing over 10hh

make sure you feed it LOTS just before riding, and just after- especially if it is sweaty....

Now pee off outside and play, and stop wasting your holidays winding people up!

Make sure you have a pre-arranged grooming end , i.e either back end or front end , you must make sure you share out the jobs equally so brushing the whole horse is a deff no - no.:D

No Im Really Asking For Everyones Experiences With Sharing And What Routine You Had To Do When You Shared A Horse. Im Genuinely Asking For Advice And I Find It Upsetting That Only One Person Has Helped Me

Forget the sharing, it's boring anyway! what you want to do is go out and buy youself a nice Ex racer, none of this mincing about, get straight in there! you can get a good-ish one from potter's there's plenty to choose from.
Keep it a bit on the thin side if I were you, you don't want it being too lively to start with, and it can live in a field ok as it will feed it's self on grass.
As you are a bit of a lump you will be fine to start riding straight away, the more weight on it's back the better, as this will stop it messing around, make sure you stop at maccy D's every morning to keep your weight up, or preferably to get your weight on...
Tack wise, any old thing off ebay will do, it's a load of rubbish you need to have a saddle fitted!
good luck and have fun!

Oh come ON, don't be so horrible.

OK firstly you need to know how your share horse lives. If he/she is turned out 24/7 there's less urgency to go up there, but if he/she is in overnight you need to go up before 9am preferably to turn out and muck out. Fill a haynet and change the water. Then you need to go back at about 5pm to bring him/her back in. This is basic care and needs to be done every day.

Have you ridden before? If not, find an instructor and take a few lessons in the school if you have one otherwise use a secure field.

Ask the owner far as many tips she can give you so that you can look after the horse well. Don't ever leave the horse because you can't be bothered, either call the owner or someone who does services and make sure the horse is looked after in your absence.

Why don't you ask the owner of the horse and stop asking on here? No you can't ride her straight after you feed her. How on earth are we supposed to know if you have to feed her and what days you can go down?

And no I wouldn't let someone who weighed 15 stone ride my 15hh, but that's up to them and dependent on the horse.

OP you need to alert the person who's horse you are intending to share as to your level of knowledge about horses as you can't learn those skills from just reading a load of replies on here and your knowledge of horses is scarily basic. Please get yourself some more experience and knowledge of horses from maybe working at a livery stables or riding school alongside knowledgeable people you can follow around and learn from before you take on a share horse. There is no way you should be considering a share with the level of knowledge you have at the moment, for the horse's sake.

Deary me, I don't know whether I feel sorry for you or whether you're just a new troll.
I hope you're messing around because the poor horse will be in wrong hands, please learn some more (offer to help out at your local stable, with a friend who owns horses etc) and gain some more knowledge. I might be wrong but I'm sure others will agree, you're not ready to be sharing a horse. I know it might seem like everyone's been a bit harsh but I've only been here a while and I've seen more trolls than you could imagine, perhaps come back when you need genuine advice.

Good luck :-)

Please don't start every word with a capital letter!!

You need to have this conversation with the owner of the horse-the horse will have a set routine that you will need to keep to.

Perhaps you should read some books on horse care such as the Manual of Horsemanship or similar to get some understanding of what you should and shouldn't be doing. The pony club website has a section called Pony Prep where you can watch videos and take quizzes on horse care, maybe this would be useful for you.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt - you need to be discussing all these things with the owner, i am assuming they have watched you ride the horse etc? She/He will tell you what days you can ride and then normally you go at a time suitable for yourself. The horse can't have any feed up to an hr and a half minimum before AND after riding especially if the horse is hot and blowing after ridden work (in which case you need to make sure you walk it around suitably to dry/cool off). Does the horse live in or out? You need to ask the owner what they expect you to do helping wise - ie mucking out or poo picking the field.

I'm sorry to rant but I hope some of you realise how horrid you're being. Yes, this could well be a troll but it's also possible that it could be a young girl who just wanted some advice.

We have a thread open currently where people divulge the worst things that have been said to them, then freely call a young girl 'fat' and take the absolute mick out of her. I honestly find this quite sad.

I agree with this :D Or you could always go to the sales, get yourself a cheap yearling and break it in yourself, the sooner the better. It's worth having a look at the Parelli videos on youtube and trying it with your new horse ;)

Best advice given on this thread yet :D

If u get one today, you'll be able to hack it out at the weekend :D :D :D

Maybe, but all I'm saying is what if it isn't?

I am the first person to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, but even I know that this one is a troll. There is no way on earth anyone would have agreed a horse share with her without going through all of the questions. And no way that most people would allow a 15 stone girl ride their 15 hh horse.
