Ok, i'm confused- if my horse is bsja registered, can i enter unaffiliated? and also do i have to be affiliated aswell to enter bsja showjumping events and affiliated events- its all confusing me!

if your horse is registered with the bsja, if you wish to compete at bsja, you will need to register yourself (if you're an adult, then its £118 for 12 months membership). But i'm assuming he will therefore be registered under another owner and not you? and in that case you would have to do a 'change of ownership' (which is the same price as re registering a horse) and that is £70 for 12 months i think.

You should be able to compete unaff, but just check the schedule of the unaff events before you enter. they may say ''open to bsja registered horses and ponies'' or something similar in which case you are fine, and if it says ''no bsja combinations'' then (as long as you're not registered, only your horse) then you may still enter that class :)

hopefully that all made sense? haha, i'm not very good at explaining :D

thankyou, yes that did all make sense :)
ok, well i'm competing unaffiliated at the moment and probably won't attempt affiliated for another year or so, it's just that i saw my mare was registered in her passport today- unfortunatly under the name 'sinta' which is dutch for santa :P

glad it made sense! haha :)

ah ok :) well, by the time you register yourself, your mare's will have run out anyway, so you would have to re-register her anyways. www.britishshowjumping.co.uk has all the membership details on it and forms etc for when you do decide to register.

but yes, just check unaff schedules... but im sure you'l be eligable for all unaff anyway, as you yourself aren't registered, only your horse... and i don't think there are usually any rules about horses... but just check :)

sinta? haha, i've heard much much worse, so i wouldn't worry :p :D

You shouldn't have any problems with competing unaff. If the show does exclude BSJA horses it normally says horse with BSJA winnings. Just checked and your mare doesn't have any winnings so wll be fine. :D

oh well, at least i'll be festive around christmas! how long do horse registrations last then? she must have been registered over 2 years and she is still on the site.

in my head...Unaffiliated... if the show has prize money on offer of something like £10 or more I thought affiliated horses weren't technically allowed to compete, the same as BS judges and coursebuilders are not technically allowed to judge/coursebuild....

I think its when a horse hasnt done bsja for 3 years they get a clean record or something, i might do bsja wih my mare next yearas she has been unrgistered for 2.5 years, i get a bit confused with it :/

I emailed bsja to find out how much my pony has won, so i am sure they would do the same for you :)

to clarify.. cos I am sad and looked it up...

Members of the BSJA are not allowed to compete as owner or rider or to officiate in any capacity other than med officer, vet, first aid or farrier at unafilliated shows other than unaffiliated minor shows as defined in rule 71.3

71. 3 minor show is a show at which the aggregate amount or valued of any prize in cash or kind held anywhere on the show does not exceed £10 (lots of words taken out just to give the jist!)

OP your horse will still appear on the site and its winnings or not forever unless removed, my pony was registered by his previous owners 6 years ago, I can still look him up :). You might want to do some on a ticket first (£6 for a class) or if you go to an 'intro' show they often have free tickets :D

becky it might have changed more recently but I know for down grading for riding club purposes horses lost £50 for each year of non registration.

From a riding club restriction, Sinta is not currently registered and does not have any BSja winnings. Therefore no restriction on what you can enter unaffiliated :D

Part of the email BSJA sent me . .

Under the name of Little Girl Blue I have found a Skewbald, Mare, 14 Hands, year of birth 1998 from Ireland this pony’s membership expired on the 07/06/09.

This pony’s winnings are as follows,

Actual: £421

Notional: £245

And the last time I have the pony competing was on the 12/04/08 in a Junior Intro 90cm coming 3rd.

I am probably being really thick here but does this mean i am okay to register next year and would her winnings be cleared? sorry if i am highjacking the thread!! and thanks for any SIMPLE replys, i am a bit blonde at times :D

If a horse/pony is not currently registered you can register it whenever you want. If it has previously been registered and has winnings then it will have them forever. They never lose either the actual or notional winnings from their record.

tbh juno who is going to know anyway! The rule above tends not to come into play locallly as no unaff offers prize money (though occasionally vouchers I suppose)

Becky - Your ponies winnings will stay with her forever. So even if you hasn't been registered for 1,2 or 10years the winnings will still be on the record and cannot be down graded. It means if you re-join her you will have to jump in Newcomers + or opens.

thankyou to everyone who has put in the effort to look up the fine details of bsja and affiliated showjumping! i think i know what the situation is now, =]

i've never really got my head round all the different class names and types of shows but i'm sure it will come if i decide to affiliated next year.
