Can someone explain overreach boots?

You don’t “need” them unless your horse has a habit of overreaching and you will know if they are because the back of their heels will be bruised or cut.

Ok thank you I've just seen a lot of people using them a didn't know if I was being a bad owner!
 
I use them despite my horse being barefoot because he’s cut his heels/patterns even before now t***ing about in the field. I sometimes use them for schooling/jumping and always for XC.
 
I always used for xc. Both Minto and then Robin. It just adds another layer of protection. For a while Robin wore them in the field so mostly wore them while being ridden but for showjumping in an arena then no.
 
I use them on Rose when turned out on my farrier's advice, it helps to keep her shoes on and prevents her over reaching if she has a hooley. The number of boots that get ripped demonstrate how useful they are. I also use them for schooling, she's quite big moving and when not working correctly can be heard to forge. TBH they can cost peanuts and take no time at all to put on so I'd rather be safe than sorry as an over reach is a pain and can take a while to heal.
 
Having had a horse overreach badly just having a play XC schooling, I always use them for XC and pretty much always for SJ. Current horse doesn’t have a habit of it, but it’s a just in case because he is a clumsy oaf ?
 
My oldie always wore them when ridden and if there was anything exciting I knew was going to happen in the field! He was very short coupled with quite flashy paces so it happened quite easily!
 
I use them as after schooling a little while ago- it was possibly from the not very good brushing boots I had at the time rubbing him but as they're so cheap I thought prevention better than cure, so he has them on each time I ride/ lunge now. We mainly hack.

He possibly stood on himself yesterday coming back from a hack so they are useful
