Can someone give me a talking to please?!

Slightly off the point but I have a slight issue with bounces.
I have done Brightling Intermediate twice & Wilton. At brightling there is a combination one stride to a bounce which is quite big. The first year there was long route which I took but the second year the only way out of the bounce was to take the first 2 elements at an angle and come back to the final element - I tried this and had a stop. I don't think that my horse could understand what I was asking.
The first bounce that I have actually done was at Houghton novice last year.
A few years ago there were a few problems with bounces and as a result most Novice & below courses completely avoid them. The problem is that if we only get to ride them at intermediate this will be even more dangerous !
I obviously practice bounces at home with SJ's (in fact I do this quite a bit) but it's quite another thing to come to a set of bounce rails at around 3'9"

I agree with you. Although I was a bit taken aback to find one in the Novice at Charlton *cue oh fcuk, hope the horse remembers how to count to two that fast!*, it wasn't very high, 3' at a push, and it had an alternative. Then at Poplar, many people's first run this year, there was a fuss about a bounce of gates in the Intermediate. If I'd been on a recently upgraded horse I think that would have scared the life out of me! Like you say, a solid 3'9" bounce is not to be taken lightly! I think using them in Novice courses the way Charlton did wouldn't be such a bad thing.
