Got one yak if a pony who is having the winter off and is sweating in.feild and stable, if it doesn't get colder soon I'm.going to have to give him a bib clip

The tb is getting grass glands that are making him twitch so is on piriton every night at the moment because the grass is growing and it's just too warm.

Just have a bunch of hot ponies that would.like it to be winter :(

I think the days of cold winters in England are well and truly over - nothing but wet, windy and warm now with more and more disgusting rain...

What rain? :-) Just had a sunny day with 15C sunny cambridgeshire

You're so lucky. The village is flooded and people have managed to drown their cars trying to get through the lanes. :( The stream is the highest I've ever seen it, the water is powering over the top of the stepping stones and I daren't walk through the ford for fear of being swept away.

I want less rain and more cold please. :)

ETA - another village apparently had to use tractors to collect their children from school yesterday as the water was too deep for cars.

Toffee like, welly-pulling mudfever-inducing mud after days of high winds and endless rain and hot ponies even clipped as 13 degrees on 1st December. I too am so fed up. I am old enough to know what winters used to be like, proper lovely cold winter, and it makes me mad how we've b*gg*red up the climate to end up with endless rain and animal coats that are so now out of sync with the seasons. Well the coat's doing what it should do, the weather isn't. I've got 4 different types of flower still flowering in my garden, grass still growing, slugs still crawling about and several birds which you usually don't see in the winter bobbing about in the trees. Don't like.

Has anyone else's horses actually sweated in their winter coats today?

Yes, my Shetlands are bib and belly clipped but it's just so hot for them that they're still sweaty :( I don't rug them so don't want to take more off in case we do get a chilly spell, so I don't know what to do! :( I wish it would just be freezing cold and dry!!

Move north? 0.5 -2.5 degrees in Perthshire this morning, with a variety of wet stuff from rain to sleet. Ponies glad of fluff and rugs. Milder tonight but my joints are sore from the wet cold, I'm only in my twenties.

My trace clipped 7/8th TB x came in sweating the other day after being out in a lightweight?!? Feels wrong to wish for a cold winter but it would make rigging easier...

I can remember when I was young how good and cold the winters were.

Think I will bib clip The yak pony today as looking at the weather is just staying this warm.or getting up to 15 degrees on Sunday :(

Am fine with the weather thanks :)
No mud to really speak of (gateways all got good surfaces in to prevent this).
Its NOT cold, snowy etc - this day 5 yrs ago in my patch of leafy Surrey we had over 6 inches of snow & it was minus 6 (and temps fell even more!)
Mine are still out 24/7, have saved over a month of hay so far and bedding!

I really would rather have it as I have at present as the winds are drying everything well :)

Faracat, very sorry for your area x

Lucky you! It was raining when I fed the chooks at 6.45am and it didn't stop until nearly 4pm today, and it wasn't exactly just drizzling. My entire garden is a water feature and my chooks are learning to say quack :(

My boys are all hot and bothered too. I've been resisting clipping thinking that it would turn cold the moment I clipped and that I'd have to rug him but now I'm regretting my decision! Unfortunately I won't have time to clip until next week so they'll have to soldier on for now.

Faracat I hope your village clears soon.

The papers are still insisting on saying that we're due the "coldest winter ever" and I just don't believe them. The Daily Mail went into meltdown last week when all we had down south was a frost - what do they think is supposed to happen in winter? I know further north the weather was a bit more extreme (I'm talking about the cold, not the wind storms) but equally, it's winter and this is supposed to happen!

I've saved a fair bit on hay so far BUT the rain is relentless :(
My cob is clipped into a blanket clip with a no fill rug as he is ridden and lives out. I feel so bad for him though as he is a proper wooly mammoth! ! If this keeps on I'll end up having to give him a full clip which I really don't want to do :(

Iprefer this weather too its a tad wet but far beter than snow I hate snow dont even like it on a christmas card blurrgh. Mind you I live on the drier side of Britain so we havent had much bad weather really a bt breezy but not too bad. Still strip grazing as too much grass for fat ponies so saving on feed and hay
