I am looking to take my 4yr old showing soon but the only problem is, I have no idea what 'type' he is. He is colored and in all the rules I have seen it says turn them out to their type (e.g. hack, riding horse etc..) I have no idea what type he would fall into!, he is a welsh sec D x Warmblood. I don't really want to put a picture on an open forum but if someone could pm me their email address that I could send one too, that would be so helpful :)

without a pic it is pretty hard to advise...! ;) go on, be brave! ;)

Based on the info you have given, I would think you would trim/pull and plait and show in the non traditional coloured classes.

you could enter any part bred m&m classes, and at a guess small hunter classes. I doubt he would look the part for a hack or riding horse.

so, my gut feeling would be to be trimmed and plaited, and turned out in plain brown tack as for small hunter classes.

Thankyou for the replies everyone. The rc shows I was looking at taking him to do have part bred m&m classes, colored and hunter classes so I could just enter in the colored first and see what the horses in the other classes look like.

And I'm too shy to put a picture up haha!

You can't be that shy if you are going to take him out showing! ;)

In the coloured classes- he should be in the non traditional (or non native) section so should be plaited and trimmed. Some will be wearing velvet browbands- but unless a dainty head (which based on breed I'm guessing probably not) then I would stick to plain brown tack and turnout as for working hunter. ;) REALY need to see a pic! ;) x

here is a picture of him in the snow this morning, please be nice!

I was waiting for this:D

He is smart, how big??

I think hunter turnout rather than riding horse but please cut the tail:D

You cannot go far wrong with tweed jacket etc, plain tack and a well turned out horse.

Take another picture, stood up and no tack.

He is lovely and has some substance, but your saddle is so far forward in the picture it makes his back look long and out of proportion.

Now where did I put the kitchen scissors - look out tail.

I attacked Ted and Alice with the kitchen scissors recently, manes, tails and beards. They are both in hiding now !

It's that time of year, or supposed to be, off come the winter coats, trim off all the surplus hair and get ready to go out to parties, we just need the weather to be kind.

I don't really know but he is super lovely, a section D x warmblood, how come I never see such combinations when I'm looking!

Oh you two above are terrible ;-) better hide the scissors OP!

Show him as a hunter. He'll look lovely all trimmed and plaited up. Flat noseband and plain browband (and no marginal stops!) and beg, borrow or steal a straighter cut saddle (that fits him) as your current (jump?) saddle makes him look really long in the back and ruins an otherwise pretty picture.

Lovely horse, you would do very well in welsh part bred classes, but I agree the saddle is far too forward cut to show in and it is putting you in a strange position as your legs are too far forward making his back look very loooong!

I think I need to hide my horse from you lot, he might not have any tail left if you all attack him!

Its a VSD saddle, I think what makes it look worse is that I am sitting wrong (I was stretching them forward when the pic was taken). I don't know anyone with a straighter cut saddle so I'll probably just stick to inhand until I can afford a second hand one.

I'll buy a hunter bridle and I'll make sure it has no rein stops on it!

When we were looking we weren't actually looking for a welsh d x warmblood I wanted a connemara x !

He is down in his passport as 16hh but more like 15.2/3 as my friend has a 15hh and he is only a smidge bigger, I should probably measure him!

He is looking a bit hairy at the moment as he hasn't done much, so I will give him a trim.

Unfortunatley the guy who bred him didn't record who he was by but the friend we bought him off said he was out of his successful welsh D mare who had done very well at showing and by a young jumping stallion who was at the time of covering ungraded but is now graded. So it is a bit of a mystery!
