BTW......have just had a thought...........

Maybe instead of "L1" we should rename it "F1"..........at least it has a better ring to it.......and it does already have something to do with horse power..........

I am very disappointed to see their foal premiums is given to such low scoring foals. It should never be lower than 75 if one wants to better the breeding. Anything lower is a farce and and should not be given a premium.

If there is no standard level according to other studbooks it makes the studbook not very credible. I was thinking the SSH was interesting and doing a good job with their way of grading and moving up within the books but now I think it is just a book that makes low stock look higher than they are in reality.

What has happened to the Scottish Sportshorse ?????? When it was set up it was with the purpose of encouraging breeders in this country to aim for the same standards as the continent - who were way ahead of us in terms of breeding top quality horses. SSH standards now seem to be in freefall - instead of sticking to as high standards as possible ,it now seems to be the case that if enough people complain that they're hard done by then standards will be lowered to accommodate them !!! In particular, their idea of now making it possible for a listed stallion without the necessary pedigree to become 'Elite' is beyond comprehension, no matter how well it is doing in sport. One of the main reasons for wanting to trace bloodlines back is to reduce the chances of 'throw backs' i.e.for the sake of argument, what's the point of putting a 16.2 mare to a stallion without the necessary generation pedigree when you don't know if there might not be a 14.2 in it's bloodline??? The standards of the SSH are now becoming SO diluted that they might as well not exist. Yes it's disappointing if your beloved horse doesn't meet the required standard - I've been there and been in tears about it - but those who are SERIOUS about what they are breeding get over it and see the point. You don't see the continental stud bookas lowering their standards just to keep the punters happy.
