what the best price to charge people with bitches to breed with our greyhound. as you can probably tell we are looking at breeding one of our greyhounds.
Well, how well bred is the dog? Does it have good lines worth breeding? Does it have a good temperament? Meet breed standards? Has it been hip and eye scored? (Is this a requirement for breeding greyhounds?) As there are varying factors for setting a stud fee.
I would think that you would need the KC papers for him, also is he bred for show or work, has he raced if so how well has he done. A good site and forum is k9 community, try that!
thanks. yes he has raced. but we don't know how well he did as we have only had him for a month and the previous owners have not given us much info about him
we were awear that that could be a problem in the breeding, as i don't think he has been a stud dog before we don't know what he will be like (even though he is good around other dogs)

Don't do it, there are enough greyhounds in rescue already!
I'm surprised at the rescue you got him from not neutering him. Very bad practice

Totally agree...and don't for 1 minute understand why...u would be breeding from a rescue
...a dog who it's self was handed int to a rescue situation with an uncertain future...and now you are contemplaiting multyplying the potential for this to happen to it's off spring
this is the reason...rescue numbers never decrease......greyhounds of all breeds do not need people multyplying the numbers unneccesarily.....there are thousands upon thousands as we speak packing rescue centers all over the country....and this is potentially what could happen to any off spring you are responsible for...is that really fair
Can you not be happy to keep him as a pet...a rescue one at that and have him neutered.
The rescue you got him from...well, what can I say.... words fail me
Is there a particular reason you are wanting to use him as a stud dog?
Have a look at this link, hopefully it will help you decide and change your mind. These are the lucky? ones. You'll never know about the tens of thousands slaughtered every year.
I really do not think you should consider using your dog at stud. As others have said, there is a huge problem with greyhounds in rescue (am also amazed he was not neutered before he came to you) so there is really no good reason to breed more. Also you may well find his temperament will change, and as you have already had to rehome 2 dogs as you had problems with them attacking other dogs, surely you don't want to risk this happening again.
No offense, but what exactly has this dog got to offer??
Shelters and rescues are bursting and overflowing with rescues waiting for homes....
You have a dog who doesn't seem to be KC reg? You have no info on his pedigree or any info whatsoever on history of genetic problems...
You don't have this dog health tested.. hips, eyes etc..Which costs hundreds, and could possibly run into thousands to get done.... I have had this done on all 3 of my dogs and trust me, its not cheap!
The dog has done nothing in the ring or working wise....
I don't want to sound harsh, but i hear so many 'pet-type' owners saying they want to breed because their dog is lovely and good natured....Thats nice to hear that you have a well-behaved dog but its absolutely NO reason to breed!
I have a FT winner, 2 working sheepdogs. (All KC, and 2 ISDN reg)..All dogs have competed to a high level of agility and flyball (at crufts!) aswell as doing showing too.... I have in the region of well over 100 rosettes between them all... I am still NOT planning to breed any of them....
