I'm applying to vet school this year and am hoping to read up on some equine vet stuff. Although I've had my own horses none of them have ever been ill (touches wood quickly!) so I don't have a great knowledge of the medical side of stuff.
I'm after a a book that explains common equine illnesses and injuries and things to a reasonable level, I guess causes, symptoms, what it actually is and treatments.
Can anyone recommend a good book? Preferably one that doesn't cost a fortune but there's always second hand so all ideas welcome. Thanks

You mean veterinary

Black's Veterinary Dictionary is on a lot of uni reading lists, I believe. It is what is says on the can - an A-Z of a whole host of veterinary things.
From a layman's perspective (well, I have an equine degree but I'm sure vets will be able to give you a better reading list than I can!) my bible is Sue Devereux's 'Veterinary Care of the Horse'. It's not exactly cheap at £45 (cheaper on Amazon!) but it's easy to read, easy to navigate, and very informative. It would be a start, at least

got mine for £7 of ebay, i swear by it too

you might want to save some money and wait to get accepted somewhere and therefore get their reading/book list - and then scour ebay for those...and also you'll then get access to some awesome library's for plentiful reading time....

Ok thanks I'll have a look at all those. It's mainly for if I get any interviews, as well as my own interest. As I said on my application that I have equine experience I am guessing they will expect me to have basic veterinary knowledge, don't want them to ask me about it at interview and me not have a clue! I like reading around the subject anyway, bit of a geek! lol

oh and if you do get an interview if you know who your interviewers are wander round campus beforehand, grab someone who looks like a student and find out what they are like/fav topics!

-I found these things out after the event

I have applied to vet school before (although I didn't get in!!) so did loads of prep for it and loads of work experience, so if you have any questions I may be able to help and my friend is studying vet med atm at Bristol so knows what its actually like.

Eeek!! I got an email today saying I've got an interview at Bristol on the 9th december!!! Better get reading!

I found some bargains for both books on ebay so thanks for the recommendations everyone.
