I've got 4 horses, a 3yr old, a 2 yr old, a yearling and an older mare. I started off with the now 2yr old when he was 9 months old. I wanted to ensure he always had company so I bought the 3yr old from York Sales. I then sold him and bought the yearling to keep the original youngster company, then the mare for me to ride. The 3 year old came back to me, and now there are 4! The mare has gone out on loan and will probably stay that way. I would rather have kept my riding horse but I owe it to the babies to give them a good start, and I have the perfect set up for youngsters, not really suitable for something to ride. Just a warning, its a slippery slope this horse buying lark!
And just to add, the yearling has been out with the mare and seemed perfectly happy, its only when I put him back in with the other 2 youngsters that I realised how depressed he'd been. The mare was company for him and they spent hours mutual grooming etc, but she would NOT play, and told him off a lot. Hes much happier out with my other boys now. Spending hours play fighting and wrestling and living the perfect baby pony life!
