My dogs live in the back of the house when I'm out at work. Today when I came home for lunch, I found they had shut themselves in the downstairs loo! I looked at Lil closely and she is red raw around the jowells/neck and had three or four small wounds on her face.

Clearly Rols has done this to her and as usually best friends I wondered if it could have been the stress of being locked in the loo (small) for some time?

They are very good little dogs but obv very high octane being JRTs and 2YOlds, so wondered if the stress of being locked up caused it?

Also - I have washed Lil's face with salt water - will this be enough and should I keep an eye out for infection? He face is swollen slightly - is there anything I can do to help this (is arnica any good on dogs?)

Are you sure she didn't do it to herself? Self mutilation is a more usual side effect of stress. B made a real mess of himself around the same area with his own back paws (different reason).

But yes, if they were confined in a small space, it is possible he could have had a go at her if they were both stressed and on top of one another with nowhere to go.

I am sure she will be fine with that but if you are worried about it then do pop her to the vets x

She could perhaps have done it herself - there is always that, I hadn't considered that! She is the type as used to nibble her tail bald for a time and has recently started on a patch on her forelimb,

I'm looking at her now and she looks very beat up

feel a bit guilty that i didn't think of closing the door now. I got her a new bed and her own Kong Wubba today to make up for it and will also, possibly, take them to bed with me now because I am feeling a bit "meh" too lol
*moans about people being too soft on their dogs*

I wouldn't overfuss her if she is overly sensitive already, she will see that acting cowed and nervy gets good results!

I am fighting the urge to bring big lugs in to keep me company....somebody stop me! The carpet was hoovered today, I reeeeallly shouldn't......:p

No worries, I can flap, squeal and burst into tears like the best of them "What have you done to your POOR EAR! WAAAAHHH!" I think our dogs are all quite well rounded, considering their owners

Hmm, sadly earlier today I got home to find both dogs in absolute bits. The bitch is positively beaten up, a now bigger cut over her eye has appeared, two cuts to her legs and her jowells/neck are again sore and inflamed. She hasn't moved from bed, even when I brought her a treat (dinner soaked in tea) so I had to hand feed it to her.

The dog is similarly beaten. He cried out when I got home and upon checking his neck is red raw and bitten, he was covered in saliva too. He wont let me clean him up (screaming the place down when I even brush against his neck hair)

They have until tomorrow to 'feel better' otherwise they'lll be off to the vets. I can only imagine they decided to argue over food in the kitchen. I have no choice but to separate them tomorrow while at work - so suggestions please. I have enough space to put them in separate rooms if need be.

Sigh.

Is it possible for you to put them in seperate crates, so they can still see each other but can't get to each other, while you are out??
My two scrap occasionaly, and if i was'nt there to pull them apart the bigger of the two would really hurt the little one.

Ditto the above advice....do not completely seperate them, this could heighten the issue, and more likely to make them fight more when they are reunited, if you leave food down u could definately assume this is what their fight was over, as u suggest in your OP, dogs can attack and will commonly attack a panicking or aggitated dog, so if u cannot see hwat they are up to crate them seperatley.

I have one large crate which they both use, I can put that in the kitchen with a bed and paper and the other one can be loose in there, they wont cause any damage to themselves trying to get out of the crate (or get in) will they?

*argh worry worrry more worry when will it end!?*

It wasn't so much food left down - as food just IN the kitchen, the dog will protect your hand bag from the bitch, if he thinks there's a chewing gum in there lol i should have realised sooner this would happen.

Ack, sorry to hear this. It is probably still residual stressyness from their stay in the toilet?

As above, a little space, but not too much, just be careful and keep a close eye on them, hope they are both feeling better soon x

And try to keep yourself calm - they do pick up on our stressyness and that makes things worse.

Checked on them in lunch time and they were ok, I actually left them loose in the big lounge as they were really sickly today and they have been fine.

When they start feeling a bit perkier I will lock them away - going to look into that crate divider, looks useful!
