I know it sounds really stupid but I worry about ruining her

I'm seriously put off riding her by it , it turns into a ridiculous mental block

You're worried about you ruining her or the loaner ruining her?

That can't be the case if it's the former and I'll tell you why.... You have the support of so many people both on hear and actually with you, you have a good instructor (that's an assumption! But I'm guessing you have) and all of these people will help keep you on the stright and narrow! So they won't let you ruin her!

I have the same thoughts about my youngster but I am on the most fantastic yard and my instructor is absolutely brilliant and if she for one second thought I was doing something that would ruin him, she'd scream at me for it (rightly so) and tell me what I should be doing.

Honestly, we all have similar thoughts to you but please stick with it. I have absolutely no doubts in my mind that you will be fine with Sol and do a perfectly great job!!

Just join a RC with me and in no time your mental block will disappear and you will enjoy riding Sol.. doing trailblazers and fun shows, pleasure rides etc.

See, got it all worked out!

If its any worry mines 6yo and very green and i constantly worry about riuning her- ive got two, yes two instructors because im that paranoid and both say im being wayyyyy over the top- im doing a fab job etc etc.
(and at times, i believe them!!)

problem with swapping would surely be same as with any loan plus the fact that you know each other so it's awkward and you may loose a freind or even fall out so badly one of you feels need to leave yard?

as loaner you may put in a lot of work and bring the horse on which the other person then benefits from and leaves you horseless, often after spending quite a lot too. They may turn around and cancel the deal at short notice meaning you have to swap back with shows entered, plans made and all the heartache also.

as loanee the other may make mistakes or teach the horse their lousy habits which may result in devaluing the horse or ruining it, and you having to sell him. You have to watch some one else look after your horse, not always to the standard you would do it. Your tack etc is all at their mercy. etc,

Sounds like you do have plenty of support. I bought a 2 yr old and did her all myself, she's now 7 and qualified trailblazers, loving the RC stuff and hopefully affiliating next spring, 1st baby I've done. Had amazing lady called Lucy on end of phone for advice (Riding Instructer, childhood freind, lives a way away now). Your advice is there on hand to help and the advice they're giving is don't be silly your doing great? Excuse me for slight confusion!!

Don't get your horse back to ride someone elses mistakes, make and correct your own! The level of pride when someone comments what a nice horse you have is 10X when you've brought it on.

If the horse is too much for you and you are not having fun then that is a different kettle of fish and by all means be brave and swap, have a horse you can enjoy more, that's not how I read the post tho?

Good luck whatever you do, but this sounds like a confidence crisis not a case of wrong horse.
xx

You read my mind. I was about to post the same query. I have a 15.3hh who takes advantage of my daughter's disability. He's not dangerous but he is cunningly lazy enough to know how to make her work instead of him.

I'd like to swap him fo a 15 hander but have never heard of anyone doing this before. Has anyone done it and made it work either on a permanent or temporary basis?
