can the grass really make such a difference to behaviour?

I'm so glad it isn't just me then. My boy is getting really naughty coming in in the morning and 18.2 of prancing gorgeousness is very scary but this thread gives me hope it won't be for too long!!!

I disagree there are far better forms of magnesium but excess mag is one of the key ingredients in enthoriths. The rec levels of feeding above will not remove all potassium and will supplement the need for sodium and chloride as well. Salt is the only mineral (shown in studies) that horses can regulate intake themselves hence the extra in the paddock.

Epsom salts in the quantity required will not harm the horse at all. It's been used for centuries. Until recent years it was all that was available in NZ. Our horses have not suffered at all but when used when the grass is going mad it WORKS.

My loan girl's field companion is being an absolute arsehole at the moment, this thread has made me wonder if this could be why!

He's being so cruel to her, aggressive and just a big old bully. It's upsetting to see, but he's not usually this bad...

Edit: have just seen this was a reincarnated thread!

Yes definitely sugars in the grasSJ producing more energy, mine does the same in spring and at this time of year especially this year after the rain brought on the new grass growth I was bouncing around the village last week, the week before the rain he was like a donkey ???

??? Glad to hear it’s not just me! I brought a giraffe in from the field the other day and spooking frequency has definitely increased. Lower temps also a factor, I was questioning my life choices around about Christmas/New Year last year.

Same here! My recently retired standie mare (who is quite literally bombproof) has been having a proper snort fest when we go out for evening walkies, jogging, spooking, you name it! It's like she's had a personality transplant, bless her o_O

My easy straight forward horse has turned in a spooky tense horse in the past week or so and I can only put it down to the huge amount of grass we have. He is an advanced dressage horse and has always been a pleasure to ride both schooling and hacking but he has just been a nightmare ,spooky , tense and even rearing which is unheard of. He changed field last week and the grass is rich and green.
Are anyone else's like this at the moment?
Simple answer.
Yes it can
Behaviours like spooking
Sharpness - fizziness - moodiness - and a few more.

the grass which is new now is also risky for laminitics too.

Potassium low can effect some horses behaviour.
