My horse has banged his leg, and its a bit swollen, and hes a bit sore.

The vet gave me some extra sachets a while ago, after similar incident I think, in case anything like this happened again. Trouble is I havent got many left, and I dont really need the vet to come out and pay the £30 call out for a few sachets of medicine!

I'd try phoning the vet and speaking to them. Mine has done this on the basis that if it wasn't better within x amount of time I would get them out.

If the vet has the fact that the human consumption declaration has been signed on his records, then possibly, so long as the horse has been seen in the last 6 months or so, so is properly "under the care" of the vet.

Ring your vet & ask. I know mine will dependant on the situation. They will also give extra anti biotics after a phone conversation dependant on symptoms.

My pony is prone to laminitis and our vet will sometimes authorise me purchasing Danilon at the surgery without him coming up on a visit and saying, "Keep him in and give him Danilon." He also lets me buy the Alamycin spray over the counter.

Mine will as my horse has had ongoing laminitis problems and they have left many sachets behind the counter for me based on me not running out in case he has a flare up. But the vet has seen my horse several times and it is an ongoing issue...but it is worth asking.

Mine will as she knows my horse and her history. but if it was a new complaint and I didn't know the vet i;d want the vet to come take a look.

Legally, no. However many vets will allow owners they know and trust to have Bute without seeing the horse. All you can do is ask.
