My mare seems to have had a scrap with a new mare yesterday. She's been kicked and has other injuries which I am none too concerned about as she's always hurting herself. However, we think she may have fallen off of the small stone bridge in the field as a result of being kicked and her hock is swollen. It wobbles if you touch it. My old YO told me that the vet told her that when hocks swell up, it's not often they go back down but she was a bit shady so I don't know if she was pretending she'd had the vet out to her horse or not..I was wondering if anyone knows about this? Is the swelling permenant? My current YO has given me some gel which is meant to be great at reducing swelling, but I only noticed her hock today as I was too busy cleaning her cuts yesterday & don't know if it's had any effect yet..will the vet need to come and drain it or anything like that, or will it always be that way, or does anyone know any good techniques for getting it to go down?
ANY advice very much appreciated..very worried about restriction of movement, she's only 7 this month & I'd hate to think of her permenantly hindered.
