I was expecting at least a tiny amount of blood ? sorry no idea on the boots except take them to a traditional cobbler and ask if it can be done.

took them to timpsons as we don’t have a cobbler anywhere near us anymore and I just got a vague look and they told me to put polish on it... not the answer I wanted clearly haha

What sort of boots are they (ie how smart?)

In my slapdash kind of way, if they were every day boots, I’d probably do something daft like see if super glue or similar would seal it up enough.

There are boot repairers who will have boots posted to them for repair - I found one in (I think) Leeds that looked great, based on reviews and photos on FB of the end results of some of their fixes. I decided in the end that my boots weren't worth all the postage costs, but if you really love yours it might be worth finding a similar service? Just off the top of my head, it might be the kind of thing that people who hunt would know about (they wear lovely expensive kit then knacker it around the countryside....it must be a common problem!)

Yes Timpsons aren't going to be up to the job, there are a few boot restorer/repairers that you can mail to that I've come across online, I can't think of any names off the top of my head but I'm sure someone will be able to recommend somebody. They might not be good as new but I'm sure they could be made useable & smart enough for lessons etc., even if not competition.

they are ariat heritage and they are 18 months old. They look immaculate and are so lovely and worn in. It’s such a shame, I’d rather try fix these as my next splurge is a pair of smart long brown boots.

hey I bought some stormsure to fix a rug and im sold! Wouldn’t use it on this though I’d make a right mess
I'm so cross at the number of pairs of wellies I threw out because they were leaking before I found I could easily fix them with this. Especially one pair I loved which I could now have fixed easily and got another winter's wear from them.

Take them to The Repair Shop. There is a lovely lady on there who does leather repairs. This week she was repairing someone dad's wallet that had spent 3 days in the sea in WWII.

Absolutely gutted ☹️
Ariats have a big gash in them. What’s worse is I don’t even know how I’ve done it.
are these “repairable” ...to a degree.

if there is a way to sort them, no DIY as I need someone else to shoulder the responsibility.

pic of the offending wound, approx 1.5 inches long

I’m very dramatic ?

is it on the leg or the toe or which bit?

I had something similar with my Ariat Devon Pro's, and Stormsure sorted it out. First I pushed a bit of the Stormsure out of the tube into a saucer, then using a toothpick I put tiny bits on at a time on, making sure that it went right into the snags/cuts on the leather. I also used a wooden lollipop stick to smooth out the leather after I'd applied the Stormsure. It took a few sessions to get it sorted, but the Stormsure stabilised the tear in the leather and strengthened it. Once finished, I actually gave it a light sanding with very fine sandpaper, then a couple of coats of decent boot polish and the tear had disappeared! ?

Sorry to hijack this but can I ask about Stormsure? Which product is best value for a straight tear in a rug? I can see they do a horse rug repair kit, but part of that is gloves etc so is that still best or maybe the pack of tape on its own?

hmmm ok now you’ve described it step by step I might give it a go. If I can send it somewhere I’d prefer but if all else fails that sounds like it would work!

Ok, just a thought.... Do you have an old pair of leather riding boots or shoes, that you could snag against a nail or barbed wire fence in a similar way? Then you can do a practice run before trying it out on your best boots? If you get on ok then you'll feel more confident - if not, then nothing lost, you can find somewhere to send then off too. ?

The actual Stormsure product is a tube of glue. When i used it to repair tears in a rugs, I just used a patch of fabric from an old rug, but do wear disposable gloves as it can be a bit messy. You can keep part used tubes in the freezer to avoid them going off. ?

You can get Stormsure from all sorts of places but here is an example link:
