A person on a yard in the next village to me left a headcollar on a pony that was too small and it got found with terrible wounds, its skin had grown around it and has a massive infection

The vet (the owner got vet out) had appartently said that they were going to get prosecuted.

How do the vets go about this or would they just report to RSPCA?

Thanks. TBH, how could you ring the vet when you knew it was your fault?

Its crazy, i would have been mortified (not that i would let my animal get in that state).

how the hell (a) not see its too small(B) that it was making wounds
i even notice mine when its rubbing

Last year our pony was diagnosed with cancer of the penis (scc).
I was so shocked when the vet just said 'oh that will have to come off! or I can pts now!'
I didn't want to do it to him and I was definatly in shock cos I said can't we just leave it?
She said if you don't do anything about it I will prosecute you!
I did hope she only said it to me to wake me up!!!!

Nope vets can't prosecute - only report to the relevant people that can...

ANYONE - and that includes vets - can bring a private prosecution if the CPS decides it doesn't want to (for whatever reason.)

I doubt if many vets WOULD - they'd refer the case to the police or RSPCA. But they most certainly could if they wished to do so!

And that doesn't just apply to animal cruelty cases - anything up to a murder case can be prosecuted by an individual (or organisation.)
