A month or so ago my horse came in from the field with a cut leg and was seen by vet and treated and has now healed. But a horse in the field also cut the inside of her leg we reckon at the same time as my mare, but because the owners hadnt been up to check on her for a few days it had gone un noticed. When the horses leg was noticed it was swollen from hock down. The owners brought her in, cold hosed it and bandaged it and came out to see how it was the next day. Again leg was massive and know mega lame so vet was called. He came in by to check my mare at same time. He reckoned they must have been cahooting round the field and other horse cut her inside leg with her hoof and we reckon mine cut her leg probably from a slip around same time.
The other horse leg was so badly swollen vet couldnt give a proper diagnoises due to the swelling. But wondered if tendon sheath was damaged due to how lame horse was. So she was put on bute and antibiotics and he asked for turnout in a small area to keep her moving but not large enough she could run on her leg. The owner had her in a small field for a couple days and horse then appeared back in massive field still lame and hugely swollen.
After a week I had to get the YO up to check the horse as the leg was ozzing pus and larger than it had been since she went out. Both owner and Yo went up to check the horse and YO suggested getting vet back out but owner said she fine. I'll poltice it and it will be fine.
She has done so and used own remedies on it for rest of month and she reckons the horse has done a tendon but wont get vet out to check and wont put on boxrest as its the summer time. She also wont give horse bute as she wants it to fell pain so it doesnt move around on it too much.
Is there anything that we can do to help the horse get the treatment that is required as the poor horse is getting worse and it gets upsetting going up to do my horse when you see the horse hobbling on 3 legs round the field?

Something very similar happened on my friends yard. YO was not interested. She took me up quietly to see what I thought - I cried:(
Friend quietly phoned the vet practice and explained horse was worse, non weight bearing etc.

The vet was amazing. He was "passing" and "dropped in" to see how the horse was doing that afternoon. Sadly the horse needed to be pts but the vet then called the owners and said he had happened to see the horse and he needed to be pts. It was done 2 days(:() later but at least he had pain relief in the meantime. The owner does not know to this day that my friend phoned the vet.

As joeanne said YO has a duty here. They should give the owner notice that vet needs to be consulted or they will have to ask owner to remove horse from yard.

Whilst I have no argument with this YO are not always prepared to stick their neck out! Not saying this is right - just a sad sad fact sometimes. I would seriously think about giving the vet a confidential call, it may just do the trick. Vets in general, if they know about suffering, will try to find a way to help. "Just dropping in when passing" worked well at my friends yard.

YO has spoken to the vet about the horse and said she has a duty of care for horse. But the vet said they cant do anything unless it comes from the owner (think this is because we know the owner wont pay the bill)

Yes - it's called getting the YO to take his responsibilities seriously. And by that I mean ensuring the welfare of the animals on his land by making his owners act responsibly.

If the owner won't call the vet - he must, and bill her for his time etc. accordingly.

Strange. Vets at my yard wouldn't hesitate to come out on the say so of the YO. In an emergency it would simply go on the YO's bill.

In the meantime the YO needs to get the horse in, start caring for it and then bill for full livery and attendance.

I am a YO and if it were me then I would phone the owner and tell them I was getting the vet and would be billing her if the vet billed me.
