ok so i need a new riding hat

mine has been well loved but is coming to the end of its life

hat level do they have to be up to for BD and showing these days?

i dont really understand it all

i like Gatehouse Conquest MK2 but not sure if its up to the standards

what do you guys all like riding in?

i would like navy that is my only thing

and no i will not be buying online, my local tack shop order in and check fit before selling

I had the Charles Owen pro skull cap. It was really comfy, but not the smartest looking. The only thing I disliked was the hat cover would always be wonky or fall off. So just treated myself to a Samshield, I cant do xc in it, but can do everything else. Its very nice, and I can feel the breeze through the air vents while we hack out. Its navy, with a slight 'shimmer' down the middle. You can get them made to your specific colour scheme too. very cool !

My last 2 hats have been CO - AYR8 for DR and SJ and J3 for XC and fast hacking. My AYR8 needs replacing after a bad fall in December stoved in the back of it and I'll be going for a Samshield this time around :). When it comes time to replace the J3 (I've had it 6 years and a had a few falls so it does need replacing) I'll either go for the same again or the CO 4Star.

I think the newer Gatehouses are up to standard but you need to check as some shops still have stock of the older ones so you might, unknowingly, end up with one of them. If you're going to be showing then CO do some nice navy velvet hats that are up to standards.

From my experience, if you fit Gatehouse, you're unlikely to fit Charles Owen. The Conquest MK2 has PAS 015 2011, so you'd be fine to wear it for BD.

yep, this. I've one of the Gatehouse jockeys so not much help, I do love it though and I generally hate hats because I have a big head. I had a Hickstead that I really liked as well. I can't wear CO hats-wrong head shape.

You can't really go wrong with PAS015 and all the major hat manufacturers in this country work to that safety standard.

This is your head. Why - for the sake of your family if no-one else - would you not have the highest hat standard you can afford? Even dressage riders, happy hackers etc have falls.

All the hats recommended above are relatively high standard and that is great. Have a read of this http://www.beta-uk.org/media/safety...ts A5 2 pager to go as insert in nehellip.pdf

And decide for yourself what standard you would rather put on your head.
