hi everyone, sadly I have been made redundant and I am starting to panic as I have 3 children and a mortgage to pay for and my horse too! Hopefully I will find another job asap but with the way the country is at the moment I have to prepare for the worst so if push comes to shove I will have to sell my Horse :( I have no idea what kind of price I would be looking at so could anyone give me some advice please?
She is a Warmblood/Shire and will be 4 in May. She is standing at 16.1hh at the moment and she has been broken in and is hacking out quite well for her age (just short rides). She is up to date with everything and I have had her from 11 months old. I really hope I don't have to sell her cos she is my baby but I could do with some advice please incase the worst happens.

Thanks everyone :)

I have no idea but just wanted to say sorry to hear you've been made redundant and I hope sincerely that you get something soon. Have you thought of loaning her out? Good luck whatever you do.

Really sorry to hear that - what a massive worry for you. I'm afraid I don't know on the price, but as others have said could you loan her (to stay at current yard possibly if you want more control?) or else find a sharer to help contribute to the costs? Also, as a youngster could you put her on cheap grass livery and turn her away for a year until things settle down financially? If you had good grazing and took her shoes off she shouldn't be too expensive to keep and it wouldn't be the end of the world to give her some time off.

Good luck with finding a new job :)

Thanks guys! I have thought about loaning her out but she's still young and can be hard work at times so not sure how that would work out. Fingers crossed I don't have to deal with it as it will be heart breaking :( thanks for all your ideas and kind wishes :)

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. As far as price goes, we are looking at the moment for similar types and there seems to be no pattern or reasoning behind prices - anything between £1500 - nearly £4000. In fact I have just spoken to a girl re barely broken freisian (dont ask) she is on two different websites, one for £2000 and one for £4000.

Well that is rather confusing lol! I paid £1200 for her almost 3 years ago when she was 11 month old but I haven't looked around since so I have no idea at all! I'm hoping it won't happen but if it did I just don't know what would be the best price for her :(

Depending on how well she is put together and how her paces are really.. We paid £3000 for a 16.2 4yr old gelding ISHxWB four years ago, very green but had jumped a fence and was very promising.

I would spend as much time on her as poss if you can before she has to go - get her going a bit more and do early pole work towards jumping, or a few classes at early shows - just to add some more to her experience and price..

Good luck. Hope you can keep her.x

So sorry to hear about your situation, good luck getting another job, and hopefully keeping your girl.

trying loaning first seems a good idea - if she has potential maybe someone looking for something to bring on and compete might consider her?

I agree with Honey08 about trying to do as much with her as possible the youngsters around my way that do sell are those that have already been started.

Sorry to hear you might have to sell her. She sounds lovely but in the current market, you would be lucky to get more than £1500 I'm afraid as she is still quite green.

Agree - very much so

I agree, shoes off, maybe find a farm with lots of good grazing to keep her on with next to nothing livery (farmers are quite reasonable re livery), then you can still do some bits with her and wait. You might find a job soon after you sell her then you would regret it big time. Poor you :( a horrible situation to be in.

Sorry to hear about your job, it's hard to say, people will pay a lot for a steady safe horse, so if she is that as well as attractive then anything from £2000-£4000, but its hard to tell without seeing her.
I dont think the market is that bad, when I was looking for a coloured pony recently every time I called for one i liked it was sold already!
If you put her on part loan you could charge about £100 a month which may help you out enough so you didn't have to sell her.
