It's bigger than before we started. This is why I've been wigging out the last couple of days. I could bash my head against the wall at the futility of it all!

If anyone knows any amazing magical cures then let me know. Other wise can I please beg for some legendary HHO vibes that it might go down?

What did the vets say? Has it got bigger since you got home, or were they hoping it would go down? Did the take anything out, or just have a good poke around? :p
 
Is it a bog spavin? my yearlings got one to match. apparently they come and go , get big, go down,maybe not...............................
 
Martlin, I don't often receive hugs ( don't much like touching people) but on this rare occasion I might just take it. I am decidedly teary, which is unlike me in the extreme.

Faracat, they are saying it'll go but I think more to be kind than with any certainty. It's basically a waiting game.

I wish we had just left well alone. £3000 to be back exactly where we started. How ridiculous.

Horses eh? Who'd have them?!
 
Sorry, should have explained what it is.

She had a foreign body response 6 months ago. Three weeks ago she went for surgery to remove the lump which never went. Now she has a lump even bigger due to a foreign body reaction to her bl00dy internal stitches.

Stupid horse! Don't buy a TB people. When they break by god they do break!

Which is exactly why we were made for each other ;) Have a hug from someone who hates touching people too :D

I can't offer any advice, but I hope it goes down and gets better soon x
 
oh bless her and you.... that has swollen up jeez so sorry, just hope it goes down and she returns back to normal for you both.

please give her big hugs from me and a pat on back for you (of you don't like hugs and that) lol.

I am sending as much vibes as you want..

Geez! Out of interest does it/did it affect her soundness wise or is it purely cosmetic?
Have some virtual hugs from another of the 'I'd rather you touched me with a barge pole than actually touched me' brigade :p
 
If it is only fluidy swelling, and she is sound on it, then I would;
1. Put hock bandages on to reduce it (poss 'pressage' bandages if you can still get them)
2. Work her to reduce it, and turn her out for as long as possible
3. Look into using anti-inflammatories (or would corticosteroids help if its an immune reaction?).
4. Alternate cold/heat to increase circulation
5. Wait (whilst having a drink or two)
I hope she gets better.

Shils, it is quite solid and is most probably a mixture of fluid and horrible pus which will end up as a knot of abscess type material like last time probably :rolleyes:

She is out 24/7 now so that is ticked off. When she has been out a few days I'll start lunging her again. I can't face it until she has calmed down a bit because she is pretty lethal at the moment. (she is rather cross)

She can't wear boots/bandages as she already has pressure wounds from the pressure bandage post surgery :( Which had to come off early and has probably contributed to this. Boo, silly TB skin.

She is on Danilon so the systemic side of anti-inflammatories is covered. I am wondering if there is a topical version that I can also use but I am no expert. Ibuleive for horses I guess is what I'm after.

Hot and cold I can manage and will be doing :)



O and she is basically sound apart from the fact her hock is huge so doesn't bend much.
 
probably a daft thing to suggest but could you put a human tubigrip on. I have never rated them UNTIL I recently used one on my ankle after surgery and the difference it has made to reducing the swelling is miraculous and it if not even in the slightest bit tight
 
Soulfull, I don't know but I can suggest it to the vet. There probably isn't much harm in trying after all.

Have a few questions for them now. They must be totally sick of me I reckon! Or rather my ridiculous horse which won't just do what it's meant to!

Perhaps try arnica gel? It took the heat out of Be's kick amazing well last week. Also, I'm fairly certain it has witch hazel in, which might help with the allergic reaction...
 
She is bright as a button this morning. Very happy to be out and calm as you like. Phew. Can stop worrying about her stressing and crack on trying to get her mended now :)

The drain from surgery is still just about open so I might ask if I can poultice for a few days. You never know. I might draw some of it out.

Am about to ring the vets to see what answers I can get.
 
Tubigrip grip all the way!!!! Fantastic stuff I'm using it on 'special homebred creature' at the moment because she has bruised the tendon sheath in her hock lots of swelling. She has double layer of tubigrip (size g) with pressage boot on top no rubs yet had it on over a week and swelling is going down!
As for horse ibuleve you want some stuff called Fastum gel, very good stuff used by most race yards in ireland,(sore shins, bumps) but dont think you can put it on open wounds.
If you can Id try putting in a spa because it will clean wound and reduce swelling, or if your lucky enough to live by sea ride her in the sea.
Goodlluck and just remember the reason we have horses is to bleed us dry and cause us endless sleepless nights!!lol
