Can you give bute to foals?

He is about 5months old and cut his leg in the field the other day
Slightly swollen and there is heat in it.
Been cleaned up and bandaged laast two days and he has been out with no bandage today.
Is is safe to give him half a bute?

Cant see why you would want to anyway.

If the leg is infected he needs antibiotics, bute wont help.

The only reason for bute would be if he was hopping lame and then I assume he would not be in the field and the vet would have been called when he first did it.

No, you should be very careful giving bute to foals. Best to speak to vet first

My vet told me not to as can cause ulcers, foals tum's are very sensitive

due to surgery my 6 month old colt has been on bute for 8 weeks the maximum dose is 1/2 sachet daily

vet came and shaved the area, injected it and told us to give him bute

No not a stupid question. Bute can be very dangerous to foal and can even be fatal to them hence people warily answering your question I would not give a foal bute except in extreme situations as it can cause untold damage to them and complications thereafter. Your vet has prescribed it and you've given it.
