Standard breds did originate from america I believe Persephone but are not rare in this country by any means. They are often favoured over french trotters for racing.

i'm hoping to do a bit of everthing with him,a big bonus he has never been used for trotting and seems to have a decent canter:)

My trotting pony was my 'horse of a lifetime' a super strong bond!

He had been in harness and his canter was like riding a ironing board but jump! Think that it's a common thing with trotters that they love jumping.

Have fun with him - I'm jealous!

yes there are a lot of them in america, but his parents are registered in the netherlands, there a quite a few over here, alot of the trotters i know are really gentle and calm horse, unfortunatly most of them canter like a 3 legged camel:)

nikCscott can't wait going to break him in this year,he had a saddle on last year and i sat on him and we had a walk around and he was a real angel but i spent more time just building a bond with him

I was going to say Standardbred but someone has beaten me to it lol. We own 2 standies & i have to say they seem to have fab temperments & we are really please with them. I think they are underated to be honest & its a shame they seem to fetch very little money theses days, sadly more often than not ending up on the meat lorry if they are put through sales :(

Well I don't hear of any- maybe a location thing. If you hear of any cheap I'll take a couple! (Don't tell my husband though ;))

There is a Standardbred Stud near to us, as well as foals from their own mares (3 or 4 every year), they also have quite a lot of visiting mares, for cross-bred foals.
