A may know of a compact (length) 7.5t coming up for sale in Cheshire. No lockers in the horse area and a much loved lorry in fab condition. Message me if you want more details.

Central England Horseboxes usually have a few around. I found him pricey.
He's also impossible to get hold of and rarely available to go view boxes. I've been trying to get an appt with them since Dec to look at 3 boxes, emails backwards and foreword trying to arrange an appt and then got an email to say all those boxes are sold. They are all still on the website.

Thanks Tiddlypom. I saw that one come up last night as well. It looks great I'm just a bit nervous about driving something that long! Am I being a bit silly? As others have said, I'll get used to it with practice but am I always going to be anxious going to other yards (a huge lorry is fine on our livery yard but when we go out to places...)

I had the same last week with him, the dealer I finally did buy from told me CHE are expensive as they don't own any of the boxes, they are all sold on commission.

A longer lorry can be bit of a pain when going to clinics at places with limited parking but a big tow vehicle and trailer end up nearly as long. It is lovely though having all the facilities and I think the horses travel well in them. I had a 5 tonne which was brilliant for local shows and had a briliant turning circle but definitely love having a loo and sink and I manage to fill the lorry if going to a long stay away show with just me and the horse.

I’d definitely open up your criteria to 7.5 tonnes or even better those at 7490.

I have 7.5 tonne but it’s very short box think ones of those small square box Royal Mail lorries that’s what mine was so it’s great.

Also not getting the side ramp thing if it’s preference fair enough but either way you look at it you have a 90 degree turn n loading on both.

I'm going to go look at a 7.5t with a rear ramp at the weekend. Based on comments here, I'm discounting those unnecessarily. The lovely seller said I could bring my horse and try him in it (I can't for other reasons) and I thought that was a really helpful offer.

Tilt Cab is an essential for me. We have a fabulous wagon mechanic who is employed by Scania who fixes the odd wagon for friends at weekends but he will only work with tilt cabs.

If you know an approachable wagon mechanic who is prepared to view once you have seen one you like take him.

Don't mind a basic living, I can do something with that!

This one is a rear ramp and only 2m34cm wide which feels a bit tight for turning a horse who is already 2m chest to bum...for those of you with big horses can you turn them okay for a rear ramp lorry?

I travel everything up to 17.2 and they all turn fine up a rear ramp. What is the difference between the turn at the top of a rear ramp and the turn at the top of a side ramp? Dont both have to turn 90 degrees to stand?

None tilt cab will double the labour costs quite easily.

I have a 6.5t Peper Harrow, huge payload, easy to drive and horses travel brilliantly in it (forward facing) basic living but we manage long weekends. It’s really easy to drive I didn’t notice much difference when I switched from 3.5t. Good luck with your search

I've put a deposit on a horsebox!

7.5t 2005 Iveco, tilt cab, mechanic said no problems getting parts on this model, only a few minor things on the pre purchase inspection. I'll get those fixed before I go collect it. Rear ramp but as you wise people suggested, I thought better to go look at one before discounting them all, and it was fine. Has been well looked after. Its also had 2ft taken out of the body, reducing the living making it just that little easier to drive and means the horse isn't behind the rear axel for a better ride for him.

I went to see to 7.5t that Warwickshire horseboxes have and it is lovely so if anyone else out there is looking, that's a very nice box. I decided I wanted something where I could do the living myself. With that one I'd have been paying for a living I was going to take out, and it was at the bottom of what I wanted on payload but a lovely box, very well looked after.
