Can you list every time you fell off your current horse?

I *think* I can.

First time I came off him was 2 months after I got him, in a field. He spooked in canter and I just fell out the side door (my balance wasn't brilliant when I got him

).
Second time was about 15 mins after that, he bucked and I said hello to the ground (and a nice rock whacking into my back

).
I'm a bit stuck now actually lol

. I think the next 2/3 falls were just silly jumping ones in the arena.
Then I went to a jumping clinic and he had me off twice. Once was a buck and the other was a really dirty stop (my fault though).
Then I had a really stupid fall in a field, he spooked when I just wasn't ready, so I came off and landed on my feet

.
Then the last time was at camp last September, he had been bucking and bucking the whole way through the flatwork lesson, stayed on for that. Went XC in the afternoon and he was bucking slightly less. Went up to a jump, bucked about a stride before it, went over the jump and the next thing I knew I was flying through the air, it was a real comedy fall apparently. I was just thrown straight up into the air with my arms out to the sides! I felt a bit better though when a few people were saying that no-one could have sat it (not just to save my pride either I don't think

). He went over the jump and as he did so, just threw his arse straight up in the air and twisted. Little git

*touches wood that I wont come off anytime soon*

Yep. Never, never and never.

The horse before that; never, never and never.

The one before that; never, never and never. And so the saga continues.

For the first time in 35 years, I fell off a young horse 3 years ago. The horse was just a newly backed 3 year old and I took him cattle penning. He had never met cattle and became lodged in a very tricky situation with a bull-headed young steer. The steer frightened the life out of my young horse and once taken out of the herd, the young horse freaked totally. I baled out after being buckaroonied all over the place. Horse stood there perfectly still, I got back on again, took him back into the herd of cattle and gave him the confidence needed and away he went, no problem.

It's funny when you ride lunatics most days for most of your life and time goes on and you still don't fall off. Eventually after years and years of not coming off, you start to get ever so concerned as to what it is like to fall off and will it hurt or will you injure yourself; well when I came off, it was probably a good thing. No injuries, not even injured pride as sooo many people came up to me afterwards and they were like "wow!" Anyhow, the moral for me was okay so I rarely come off, but if I did again, it wouldn't be scary for me anymore... not that I intend to come off again for at least another 35 years!

After eight years together.....

1) Fell off in spectacular style when trying a new saddle...became unseated and was thrown into a fence after popping a tiny jump

2) Bailed out on approach to some planks at The Hand when on the Pony Club team - Ellie spooked one way, I fell the other...
3) Was leaning down to open a gate, when some crows flew out of the hedge. I fell sideways, hit head on a rock, and then Ellie stood on my arm. It's still all lumpy today!

4) Fell off at Fence 3 at VWH Pony Club Show
5) Fell off at Fence 3 at Area Pony Club Show at Cheltenham racecourse
6) Fell off in the practice ring at Blewbury (Area BSJA show). Went on to win £80 that day though!

7) Both Ellie and I fell during a gridwork session. She was too brave and bold, took on two elements of a bounce at the same time and somersaulted. She was fine; I broke my hand, and lost my jumping nerve!

8) Ellie did a massive spook when we were schooling under floodlights....I went headfirst into a closeboard fence, and broke it

9) She caught me unawares out hacking - spooked and ran backwards when a fox appeared ahead of us, and I ended up sat on my backside!

Current horse, no falls.
Two previous horses, one fall each, although I don't actually count them, as in both cases the horses hit the ground too.

My UK boy - only once, silly side slip too in a field when he spooked, had owned him about 3 months and completely took me by surprise, found myself off and back on him within 10 seconds.

My oz boy - never and this I find amazing cos no-one else can stay on him, spooks, naps, flying changes, you name it (I did lose a stirrup a couple of weeks ago mid gallop).

Although today (see other post) I got kicked hard in the knee by Athens who was in front of me while riding, I nearly fainted but managed to stay and on and get a couple more gallops out of the trek back (it seemed to help the pain....til I got off!)
