sometimes when i ride/compete my horse he is really flat and seems really lethargic. like the other day I had entered 2 HT classes. the 1st one he was really flat and seemed knackered while i was warming up, did the one class still didnt seem right so left it at that. untacked him, washed off, booted up etc and put back in trailer and as soon as we moved off he weed.
today i took hi out in the trailer for a hack but he seemed flat, came back to trailer untacked etc, loaded up moved off and he weed.
its starting to annoy me now becasue he WONT wee with me on him/when hes out he must wait until he's in his trailer, field/stable.
its starting to lose us placings etc when we're out so wonder if anyone else has the same prob?

Thanks for reading!!

ETA: he has weed once when ive been on him when we were out hunting all day so i know he can!!

he will wee in a bucket in his box, coz i know he will do it as soon as he goes in so i can 'catch' it! will try the whistling at the same time tho see if that works! thanx

anyone else have the same problem?

a friend had a show pony who used to do the same thing, and then cramp up in the ring and try to have a wee there. i think the whistling thing helped iirc. good luck! rustling bedding underneath him in the lorry/trailer might help too.

The whistling definately works, but may take time to actually get the message across.... A friend of mine keeps all her horses at home and they wee on request "whistle"!!! She even goes out at ten at night to take them all out for a wee!!! And they never wee overnight!!!

our old YO (when it was a riding school ) used to make all hers wee in a bucket via whistling. when she started taking liveries in she soon had all of them weeing in a bucket to so it can be done!

Whistling can help with some, but my old horse just wouldn't wee anywhere but the stable. We could leave for a show at 5am and get home at 1am and he would not have gone. Didn't affect him though. As soon as we got home I'd put him straight in before I did anything else. He wouldn't go in the field either though. Really wierd thing was he wouldn't drink in his stable! Only on the yard or in the field.

yep my oldie wont jump properly if he needs a widdle, I can spent ages whistling but with last few years it has got easier for him to know what I am on about despite the fact he is probably busting!
